So exciting! And such a big decision. There's just not a lot better than getting a new puppy (except perhaps growing to love them over the years so much that you can't believe it)! |
A couple name ideas. Quote:
Jack [Dawson] - Titanic Johnny [Castle] - Dirty Dancing Edward [Lewis] - Pretty Woman or [Cullen] - Twilight (depending on which you like) Rick [Blaine] (either could be a first name) - Casablanca Rhett [Butler] or Clark [Gable] (because I like the name Clark) - Gone With the Wind |
My Moka was originally Mocha after the flavor, then shortened to Moka for originality. Mylee (is NOT after Miley Cyrus, LOL) but rather ...... Miles Austin of the Dallas Cowboys. My DH is a huge DC fan, has been his whole life. We got Mylee on Thanksgiving weekend, and the DC always play on Thanksgiving. |
When I picked out my female, I wanted one with the terrier spunk. Jezebel was a wicked, evil queen in the Old Testament of the Bible. My girl isn't evil (well, most of the time, anyway!), but she has such spunk and enthusiasm and wouldn't listen as a pup, and now she is still so "in your face" that it just seems to fit her. She is uber friendly and affectionate, but strictly on her own terms. Very independent. When my Dad first met her, he didn't like the name and told her "they named you after a bad person!" After 20 minutes or so, he said "well maybe you gave her the right name after all." LOL. When we got our male, he was a rehome that was already a year old, and his name was exactly the same as my husband's, so we had to change it. He was so sweet and loving, cuddly, not so independent, very much the opposite of Jezebel in many ways. So I named him Chuy, a Spanish name that is the diminutive (nickname) for Jesus. So there you have it, they are basically named for "good" and "evil." |
My little girl was a gift from the faculty and staff at the school I taught special ed. at for 29 years when I retired (31 years total teaching special ed.). The schools name was Rockfield, so Roxie was named for Rockfield Elementary and the wonderful people there that brought us together because they found out she was something I had always wanted. |
Levi came with his name and we kept it. It just fits. Short and sassy and an anagram of evil. :p |
Gabby was named after Eva Longoria-Parker's character, "Gabby," on Desperate Housewives. My dog Gabby looked like her hair was highlighted (& at the time Gabby' on DHW had almost the same color hair!) Also, as a puppy, Gabby strutted around all prissy like she thought she was a supermodel. Overtime she has became "Gabby Doo" b/c she loves Scooby Doo! && when she's in trouble she's "Abigal" (for no real reason =P ) |
Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead after he had died some days ago. My husband passed away in 2009 and my family has been struggling. Not financially but we aren't the same as we used to be in spirit. We do all the same things but there is no joy in them anymore. Well, a little now, we're getting there. Lazarus "Lazzy" is bringing the family back to life. He is sweet Angel! |
I have named my dog "Cali" for "California", where I now currently live (I am from Switzerland). Also, I love geographic names for dogs, my family dog is named Toulouse (a city in France)...:) |
Fido's name is Fido just because he's such a perfect happy-go-lucky dog that is willing to please his owner all the time ! He is full of joy all the time. Like the name means in Latin ''I am faithful''. Also, there is a movie called Fido, and a magazine ! :P |
Sparky was named by my son. I think he heard it from one of the cartoons he watches. |
My 9 week old is called Miku. It just sounds to cute and cuddly like her (: |
Names are so much fun to come up with! :D Carmel...My bf bought him for me as an anniversary gift so we named him Carmel, after the beach he took me on our first date. Plus, we just love the name!! It's also the name of a dog beach here in CA ;) Can't be more perfect! :p Emma...My bf and I both LOVE Friends so we named her after the baby Rachel and Ross had. Kirin...My upcoming girl. She is named after my favorite restaurant that I have a lot of memories from. Found out Kirin is a Chinese unicorn and brings good luck! Couldn't shake off the name since. Also, bf liked it too and we both had to agree on the name. |
I honestly don't know why we named him Bentley. My 6 year old son and I had it narrowed down to Jack, Bentley or Tobago (my boyfriend is from Trinidad and thought this name to be quite amusing). My son chose Jack, I chose Bentley. The day we met him and we were on the car ride home I told my son to choose 1 of the 3 names and he said, "I think he's a BENTLEY!" :) |

My packs names Raina - Spanish for queen (my daughter-in-law though people would understand this spelling rather than reina) Gus - is short for Asparagus Beanie Baby - I was really thinking of the old cartoon Beany and Cecil, but more people would understand Beanie Baby Wally - he just looked like a Wally to me |
Sophie Kate came with the name Sophie, I added the Kate part after my friend Katie. The first night I brought her home Katie came over and Sophie Kate planted herself on Katies lap and stayed there for hours. |
Ziva , the character on NCIS, my son was doing a TV marathon the summer we got her.. The breeder had been calling her Grace,so her name is Ziva Grace. We have a printed list of all the NCIS characters and argue what our next pup will be named! (DS says Tony, I say McGee ) |
Here is how it goes at our house when we name or rename a dog. I look in the Websters and start listing all the names I think suit that particular dog or breed. Then my dh and I take turns vetoing a name until there is one left. That is how it works. That way we are both happy with the name and we don't argue about what to call her or him. I don't know why it matters here because he is going to come up with screwy versions of their names anyway. Gracie came to us as Gracie and she was too old to change it but she answers to May May.:) Adie is usually called Kay Kay (Adie Cakes to Cakes to Kay Kay) :D Skeeter is Skeety or Peaty. DH likes to call him fat bastard. sigh:eek: Cassie for some reason has always been Cassie, Cass, or Cassie Bug:p Touhy, the cat, used to be Susie 2 (named after my childhood cat) but it got changed to Two Two then Touhy. We are so weird. |

Abby and Max are officially Abigail Catherine and Maxwell William. Since I know they will feel like a prince and princess, their middle names are after the young royals. Seems fitting since I am originally from England. |
I wanted to name our new baby Bubba, because that's what we called our late Lab, Bruno. But my daughter said that nickname was reserved for Bruno. Then I came up with Maurice and call him Mo. Maurice just didn't fit him, so after a couple days of brainstorming, my daughter blurted "Moses!". Thus our new baby boy had a name! We still call him Mo too! |

My Cairn terriers names were Deion, after Deion Sanders- Atlanta Falcons football player in the 90's Champion- named after Gene Autry's horse in cowboy movies in the 40's other names I have had were Critter, Snipper, Missy,Butch, Tinker. |

Although both of mine are rescues.. Peanut came to us as PEanut. So, it just stayed the same. We call him peanut butter, nutter, but, nut but and pp... He knows them all. Tink had NO NAME. She was found wondering onthe side of the road:mad: NO one claimed her and the nice lady that I got her from called her little mama, although, she is spayed. My daighter picked her up for me and said she looked like a little tinker toy. We statred calling her Tink and Tinky too!! ??? |

I have always named my dogs after something that fits in our lives at the time.. I had a minpin named Peja (different spelling but came from the then Sac Kings Player) Zeus's Shadow was also a minpin, who thought he was a God, we were really into greek mythology at the time, Sasha Ming - she was named sasha before I got her, she was a pekingese so I wanted to add some culture to her, the added ming was for the ming dynasty. And finally, we have Kizzie, our little Morkie Pup, and she's an only dog in our house now.. Kizzie took us days to name, she came named Katie from the breeder, which is cute but we know a lot of people with that name.. Kinzie was a big favorite but again we know people with that or close to that name.. Kizzie comes running when you make kissy noises with the happiest little body wag and gives you kisses.. eventually we just started calling her Kissy, and Kinzie... then merged them into Kizzie.. perfect meld and perfect pup! :) |
