| Thanks to all for your suggestions. I called a vet and explained what was going on and they said to monitor her. Well, I have had her for 20 days now and I feel and see them moving in her belly. I have read just about everything online about pregnant yorkies and have come across 1 site saying fetal movement they are 7 weeks along and another saying 8 weeks. Is this just an approximation or is there a definitive answer. She will be sleeping in my room from now until the pups are 3 weeks. I saw a video on youtube of a maltese giving birth and the breeder put iodine on the puppies umbilical cord. Is this something I need to do or was that something extra on her part? Lastly, Lady was scheduled to be spayed on July 20. How long will I have to wait for her to get the surgery? Thanks again everyone. |

| I just saw your thread.. In the initial pictures your new girl looked liked she was pregnant to me. My brothers Chi is ready to give birth any day. This is a scary situation to be in. Has your yorkie been to a vet? I really hope all go well for her and you.

It is 8 weeks that you feel the pups move around as they are close to being born. You can also hear their heartbeats now as well. The iodine isn't necessary but you should cut the cord yourself as you don't want the mom to chew it too short or rip it out. Here is a good site to look at that has tons of information on whelping. Dog Breeding and Canine Reproduction by Debbie Jensen. Dog Breeding and Whelping guide for dog breeders. Have you taken her in for an x-ray? If not I would do so as it will give you an idea of how many pups and if they are possibly too big for her. I hope you have someone there that can help you and that you are ready for this. A lot can happen with a whelp, it is a big responsibility. She should be spayed after her pups are weaned which is around 8 weeks old. Good luck, I hope all goes well.

| I don't know if she's pregnant: take her to the vet... oh I see you updated. Don't call, go to the vets, please. Anyways what vet just advises over the phone & doesn't want to do an exam? The vet needs to do an exam and will readily advise you on all this and so much more that is needed for a pregnant dog; let alone the delivery of pups of unknown size.... What shelter was it again because all those in your area I see require spay/neuter before release...or so says the first 9 that show up via Google search...?

| @ concretegurl...It's the Florissant Animal Shelter not the St. Louis County Shelter or a rescue shelter. The adoption of the animals are free but the person adopting is required to get them spayed or neutered within 30 days or you will have to return the pet and possibly pay a fine for non-compliance. |

| Please update us. The reason some of us are urging you to take her to a Vet is because we are worried. (We do not know what your financial situation, but ) Breeding a dog can be expensive and many things can go wrong. I am sure you were not interested in breeding this adorable little girl. You probably just wanted a pet you could love and share your life with. I wish there were more people like you that would open their heart and home to a homeless animal. We will try to give you good advice and support. |

| God Bless you for giving her a loving home. Such sweet babies, what a surprise for you. Happy to hear they are doing well. Have they been to the vet and can you tell if they are Yorkies?

| I have just read this thread and am grateful for a happy ending. Lady looks peaceful and the pups look great. Did you and Lady do this alone? You've done a wonderful job rescuing this girl and saving her babies. I do agree with Rhetts moma to make certain these babies are spayed and neutered. Good luck to all of you. Keep us updated please.
