So ANGRY! UGH I am just so mad right now!! There are 2 dogs that ever since we moved in April love to come pee all over anything they can smell our golden retriever on in the backyard. One is a pitt mix and the other a schnauzer mix. Well I had ran them out of our backyard after catching them peeing on everything and the pitt proceded to bark at me on my own deck which already made me mad ...well about 30 minutes later I had Chloe out pottying and the pitt came flying out of nowhere at Chloe. Scared us both to death. She ran the opposite way from me which made it worse trying to get away from him and he just chased her as me and my two kids tried to get her. I finally got her and ran him off and she had pooped all over herself she was so scared. I took her in the house beyond furious...my husband was mad but was trying to get me to calm down. I try to be nice...I don't want neighbors mad at me but this is IT! I don't let my golden retriever just run all over the place and I expect the same respect. Ok I think I feel better. lol |
I would be angry too! I would be storming over there telling them to keep their own dogs in their own dang yard! Lol. Hey sometimes you just need to let it out on YT! :D |
I know exactly what you mean Kristy. I had Jada and Bogie outside on leash for a walk back in the early spring. None of our neighbors keep their dogs contained and just let them run wild. A huge black dog came barking in our driveway and I had to grab Jada and Bogie and get them in the house. Jada was barking her fool head off, and trying to attack the big dog. There are disadvantages to living in the country and people not taking care of their animals is one of them. I am so glad Chloe is ok. I would talk to your neighbors and if they don't keep their dogs out of your yard you may have to call animal control (I had to do that in the past) Good luck. |
How scary for you and your babies (skin and fur). I am so relieved that things ended as well as they did. |
Do you have animal control? Maybe let animal control handle the situation (if that is an option). Pitts are known to turn on you. I know it is a mix but still. How very scary for you and Chloe! |
How scary for you and Chloe and your kids. That she pooped herself tells me how scared she was. We get chased all the time in our neighborhood - with folks who let their big dogs run loose. It makes me SO mad. Like you, mine don't run loose - they stay in their fenced yard. It would only take one bite to really injure these little ones. Could you fence your yard? My neighbors got SO MAD at me for fencing my yard (and ruining their view, give me a break). BUT they have a large german shephard and another big dog - supposedly contained with an underground fence, but they never have their collars on. Like I am going to risk Lucy's life on a daily basis so they can have their 'view'. I'm glad everything turned out ok for you. That would be terrible for your kids to see a big dog injuring Chloe. |
Oh man i would have been furios as well. So glad he did not get your sweet girl |
Michelle, that is true about living in the country. I have been nice these past 2 months as they mark and pee around my whole house and yard...but when they start intruding on my babies and showing agression...mommy takes over. lol I wanted to go down to their house right that second but my husband talked me into waiting, calming down, and taking care of poor Chloe which was shaking like a leaf..and not to mention covered in poop. I am going to have a talk with them though, and as much as I'd hate it, call animal control if necessary. I'm not going to put up with being scared for my dogs and having them scared in their own yard. And I am not going to worry about my skin children playing in their own yard either! |
I wish one day we could get it fenced. Our previous yard was but we just moved here and to fence 2 acres is way out of our budget right now. We have a small area fenced so our golden retriever can play free in there without worrying and the deck is huge so the yorkies play on there a lot, but of course can't potty there.... |
My dogs are in a dog run and do not have access to the open yard. I cant imagine what I would do if anything like what you experiences happened to my babies. Not sure I would be so kind.. We have several dogs in our neighborhood that run loose and seem to think that our yard is the the local dumping ground. It's degusting.. I run over it with the lawn tractor and my kids step in in all the time. I swear that if I find out who is doing it I won't be so nice... I am going to scoop it up and hand delivering it to the persons home, neighbors or no there is no excuse for it ! |
I think that it is totally wrong for a neighbor not to have their dogs under control.. Allowing them to get in other people's property regardless if the yard is fenced or not is very irresponsible. I would be angry too. Those 2 dogs are big, and I would feel threatend if they came too close to my babies. Poor little yorkie girl pottying all over herself in fear. Not a good experience for any of you guys. Their are leash laws , so if it was the last thing I could do was to get animal control invloved then I would . It is for the safety of the dogs as well as it is the law.. Are their leash laws wher you live? They could be fined ... Some people just do not care, or they are just plain clueless . |
Yes there are leash laws here. It seems in the country nobody cares ...although these are the only dogs we have had an issue with since we moved. I definitely miss our fence to at least keep them out :( |
Wow, I am sorry, you must have been scared I sure hope you can work this out, but people that let their dogs roam like don't respect for others. Be careful That is one of the few things I don't miss about living in the country |
i also live in the country and i do believe that people in or out of the city should have control over their dogs. no matter what kind it is. i would have went over there and told them excautly what i thought because im sure if something bad had happened if they dont care for their own dogs what makes them wanna help if ur poor baby needed something! thank God nothing did happen and u did get them dogs out of ur yard. if they cant control their animals i say call animal control and let them handle it. good luck on getting everything tooken care of and i hope ur baby is feeling better |
How scary! I would be really upset. We had a large and unneutered rotweiller running around our neighborhood, and we encountered him once on our walk. It scared the sh*t out of me, and I started yelling and kicking at him because he ran up on us. Thank goodness both of mine were on their harness/leash, so I pulled them up pretty quickly. I would talk to the owners, and if that does not seem to help... call Animal Control! You have every right to have your dogs in your yard without being afraid. |
Many towns have leash laws and require that all dogs be under control at all times. I would check at your local town/city hall what the dog control laws are. Then speak to your neighbors and tell them how concerned you are about your yard and especially your little dog. If they won't listen to you then speak to the animal control people or the police or both to see what your options are. The town I used to live in had some very stiff fines for owners that let their dogs run free. Having to pay a fine or two may change their ways fast. |
Their dogs shouldn't be freeling going into your backyard to pee. Why aren't they on a leash? Call the cops. |
I guess I'm just too nice. I didn't want to already have bad relationships with neighbors is why I hadn't said anything before when I'd catch them. Tonight made it a whole other story though and even if it means neighbors being mad...I don't care...what stinks is half of them are related it seems. Lol. |
You can not have good relations with bad neighbors. Neighbors that dont care enough to take good care of their own animals by letting them run loose, sure dont care about your tiny babies. A call to animal control EVERY time the dogs show up in your yard,I suggest pictures. If you can at some point file a formal complaint I would. Here in the city, tall fences make very good neighbors. The guy next to me has a 7ft stockade fence and my chainlink is 5 ft tall. We get along very well. We have neighbors that live across the street,2 separate households, that let their tiny 2lb chis run loose. Cannt tell you the times I have almost hit one of them. |

Well, lots of luck talking to these people. In my experience, anyone who allows their dogs to run loose and damage or harm other people's property or pets, don't care and won't respond well. We have a big problem with cats in my neighborhood and the owner, who has 15-20 cats, has been talked to many times, with no change. If they don't care, talking to them won't change them. Maybe if you call animal control to come and get the dogs every time you see them loose and they have to go collect them, then they will think about it. Even if laws exist, getting them enforced can be a big problem. Good luck! Jeanette |
I would call animal control and have them visit with them. that is not acceptable. I do let my dogs go in other people's yard or poop while we are out walking/ I bring a bag and always clean it up. Its irresponsible pet owners like that that makes it bad for everyone. I am so glad that it turned out okay |
I would be so scared for my baby, I think you should talk to the neighbors first, and if it happens again, you might have to call animal control :( |
Thank goodness everything turned out ok and Chloe didn't get hurt. I'd definitely report the indicent to the dog officer...God forbid anything happens to another dog, it may make a difference. |
You have to keep foremost in your mind that your dog(s) are at risk when their dogs are running amok. Is it worth it to try to be friends if your little one(s) could be hurt. |
Here is what I would do if it were me....I would first politely tell the owner of the dog what happened and give them the opportunity to correct the problem. Second I would get one of those traps place some hot dogs inside and catch the sucker. Next I would call animal control and tell them, I have traped an animal in 'MY YARD' and tell them to come and get it. But that's just me...and depending on what kind of mood I am in....I might just skip one and two and move straight to three....again....that's just me! Cynthia |
you: hello officer, i have a pit mix loose in my neighborhood that has come after me and my dog. please help us. animal control: we'll be there to pick that dog up for the pound so the owner's realize they can't have their loose animals as a nuisance to others. GOOD LUCK and i hope that stops it :D |
i'm glad to hear your little one wasn't hurt. We live across the street from a pit bull. Dinky got loose and ran into his yard (electronic fence) last year when Dinky was still a little baby. If my DH had not been one step behind him.... We had to take the blame for that one, but every little dog in this neighborhood is terrified of that brute. He took the hit and went through the fence to go after another little dog last year. I really hate that dog!!! |
This being Texas, when I lived in rural Johnson County I called about a pack of dogs running loose that were terriorizing the neighborhood including my young skin babies. I was told to "Shoot them and bag them." I now live in the city, and they wanted me to pay $25 to pick up a dog that keeps coming into my yard after my boys who are on a leash! My response, "Why am I paying for city services with my tax money?" |
