Am I wrong? My little foster girl who is 8 had her spay and dental today, actually let me back up, my former foster girl, she is now ours, my DH failed fostering. Well the vet called and said they had some complications, they could not get her into a deep state of anesthesia and everytime they tried to give her more her heartrate dropped. She was in such a light state of anesthesia she overrode the breathing machine and was breathing on her own. They did not clean her teeth as well as they would have liked because they just wanted to get out and wake her up, she had her spay and this is the part that makes me very angry, they said because of the light plain she was on they do not know how much of her spay she felt, she was not out enough to have not felt anything, so why would they not have opted to forgo the spayu, it was not a lifesaving operation, she could have survived without being spayed. I am fuming mad that she felt them cutting into her and taking parts out.... They sent her home with the strongest narcotic they have bu something, I have to squirt it on her gums as that is how it is absorbed, then they are sending tobegesicf as well so incase the heavy narcotic does not help her I have to give her this stuff too, they are just concerned about pain management because of the way she reacted to the anesthetic they are not sure the pain meds will be as effective as they should be. She also had 7 teeth pulled and may need her 2 bottom canines pulled in time, but again she was not sure and just wanted to get out and wake her up. Then they charged me 400.00 for the pleasure of torturing my baby girl. I was not going to pay the bill but they would not give me the dog or her meds until i did. I am filing a complaint with the veterinary board frist thing Monday. Am I wrong for being mad and thinking they should have opted to forgo the spay? |
I would be angry as well, they should have consulted you before they went forward with anything once they realized they were having any sort of problem. |
No you are not wrong. That is unacceptable what they did. I feel for you and your baby. We had a similar experience with our cat and the spaying. They did not tell us they tortured her. Her personality completely changed after being spayed. She hates everyone now and is a horrible miserable animal. She is now 14 years old. They didn't even send her home with pain medicine! I'm sorry you and your baby went through that. I would definitely file a complaint with anybody and everybody who is relavent. They should get their licenses revoked forever. I hope that vet clinic shuts down. That's awful! |

This vet should have her licensed pulled. I do hope you file the complaint. This was just plain cruel and they should have contacted you before doing anything else. I hope she recovers quickly and has no side effects from this trauma. |
Completely unacceptable. Report them, but know that they won't get their license taken away. They will probably get a warning and a mark against them at most (lack of good moral character type thing). If they were using Iso, they should have stopped immediately and recommended that at least you take your pup to somebody who could use Sevo (or vice versa) or better yet, gotten her to a specialty hospital with a veterinary anesthesiologist on staff. It was cruel and inhumane. I would have no problems writing reviews about it on vet review sites. Even when a pup is resisting a simple dental mouth exam here, they get put further under. Absoultely ridiculous to make an animal feel a spay. |
Disgusting. Your poor little girl. I hope the pain meds will at least keep her comfortable while she recovers. I would definitely report them (even if it won't do any good - it can't hurt), and I'm sure needless to say, but I'd find a new vet ASAP. |
I would be furious! How awful for them to go ahead and do it! And admit that did not know how of the pain she felt!!! I don't think I would ever be back. And yes, I would report it! On another note, I hope this poor baby is feeling better soon. |
That's so horrible for your baby to have to go through. I would be furious and if your vet isn't the owner of the clinic, report it to them also. |
you have every right to be mad, I would be as well. I hope she is okay and recovers well |
i would be So mad i would make a complaint and keep complaining until something is done what they did was wrong and they should get in trouble for that! how rude!! but i do hope ur baby is feeling better tomorrow! |
That is sooo terrible and unethical. I would be fuming, and would have no problem complaining and filing some sort of complaint. I am sorry you and your baby had to go through this. |
You are not wrong, your poor baby!!!! |
This makes me sick to my stomach, poor girl. |
you are definitely not wrong |
I just have no words.... |
Please let us know how she is doing! I hope she recovers with no problems! |
What is the name of the vet and the clinic? This is horrible! I hope your baby recovers well. |
Wow, that is truly unbelievable! You're not wrong at all for being mad, I would be raising hell! I'd do as others have suggested & get the word out about this via complaints, reviews, whatever. That vet is obviously lacking some serious common sense & judgement. |
That is horrible! No way, I would definitely report them. That is just inhumane. I hope your poor baby girl will not be scarred from this and that she will be able to trust open and unconditionally. Please give her extra hugs and TLC. |
To me this is cruel and barbaric. She was not fighting for her life and once they could not anesthetize her, they, OF COURSE should have stopped the procedure and called you. To do an elective procedure on an unanesthetized dog is like vivesection to me! I would lodge complaints with every organization possible as this vet needs to be in another profession - one that does not involve living and breathing creatures. A vet with no better judgment than this should be judged for this kind of cruel behavior and have the scapel removed from his/her hand permanently. I would request my money back and a formal apology as well as an investigation into this unethical behavior. |
Wow! Just wow! I'd be fuming, and I guarantee you that I would have been hauled outta there by the police. I would write them up, contact the BBB, annihilate them in vet reviews of their business, call the vet board, and get ahold of a local news station to let them know that the people in your community shouldn't take their pets to this non-feeling individual. I hope your baby heals, and the pain meds are sufficient. I'm so sorry something like this happened to you. |
How terrible, I cannot beleive they went ahead and did the surgery, your poor baby! I hope she gets to feeling better soon. You certainly are not wrong to feel the way you do. |
That is horrible! You are absolutely right to be mad! Max and Abby will not being going in for a few months, but I will make sure to tell my vet that if a similar situation arises to call me before they proceed. I hope your baby is doing okay now. I would certainly file a complaint. Also, when I was selecting a vet, I not only asked friends for recommendations, but I read many on-line reviews. The on-line reviews are read by a lot of potential patients. |
Oh, goodness, your poor little girl! I would be absolutely furious and would definitely file a complaint. Vets are supposed to be helping animals, not torturing them. I hope your little one recovers quickly and completely. Jeanette |
I cannot believe they did that to your baby! To let a pt feel a spay (basically a oophorohysterectomy) is unconscienable (sp)! I would take EllieMay's advice and report them and find another vet. I would not trust that dr w her again. I am so sorry this happened to you and your little one! |
OMG I am just sick to my stomach. Yes, you should file a complaint. You also should send them a certified letter demanding your money be returned. None of that will make up for what happened to her; but perhaps it might help another pup. That poor baby...I just cannot believe this. :( |
Poor Baby, I can\'t believe this. How cruel to do this too your little one. |
So sorry to hear that. That vet should have surgery will almost asleep! Find another Vet. |
This is every pet owners nightmare! I\'m SO sorry your baby girl had to endure this. I agree with everyone about posting complaints wherever you can, also think about doing it on Angie\'s List, too. Maybe this will help, and this so-called "vet" will experience enough of a decline in business that it will put a hurtin\' on her! |
