| Oh God no not the same vet!!!!!! The incision is all closed, the vet today said it is looking really good besides the bruising and swelling. She ate a little on her own tonight and seems to be mostly comfortable, she wanders around the room every so often, so she is definately getting a little more active.

| As I read this again it seems to me that the spay was done....and then she woke up during the dental?? I mean, I cannot believe a vet would do a spay like that.

| ugh! I just read through this thread and still am in disbelief that your baby was put thru this. Glad to hear that her pain seems to be managed now. Hoping that she gets better soon.

That is the way it sounded, but when I went back it did not appear to be that way to me. I am totally confused anyway. She says it is a foster...but backtracked and said no...she failed and adopted her. Then, in a later post she said that the director of the rescue is calling the vet. Not that that has much to do with it. Just that I wonder if the communication is coming across in a way that we are not understanding the op? AND...I would have a serious problem with them doing anything to my pup if he/she was having issues with anesthesia! Except of course for closing up an incision or something that HAD to be done.

I definitely agree with this. They had an obligation to let you know...before the surgery, giving you the option of not having it done.

| Ladyjane... Just to try to be clearer, Nya came to me on May 18 as a foster, my hubby failed fostering but that was only on Thursday and I had not had a chance to tell rescue we wanted to adopt her until after all of this happened Friday. So when I called the state director of the rescue i told her what had happened and near the end of the conversation asked her what the procedure was to adopt her. So technically she is still the rescues dog until all the paperwork for the adoption is done, however to us she is our dog...hope that makes more sense. As far as the surgery, EVERYTHING was done while Nya was NOT completely anethestized, they could not get her under. The vet said "She was on such a light plain, she overrode the breathing machine and was breathing on her own, when we tried to increase the anesthetic her heartrate dropped so we backed it off again" So I asked her "Are you telling me she felt the surgery?" She replied "I do not know how much she may or may not have felt, she was not accepting the anesthetic and would not go into a deep state of anesthesia" I left it alone because I was absorbing what she said and I called my husband to ask him.....He lost his mind. He said if that little girl was breathing on her own she was NOT under (He is an ER nurse but used to be an OR nurse) So when i went to pick Nya up I spoke (yelled) to the vet I asked her WHY on earth she would have proceeded with the spay if she knew Nya was not deep under, she just said well she was under but she was just on a very light plain. So I re-asked, did she feel pain during her spay? She repeated again she could not say forsure how much Nya may have felt. She then went on to say they pulled 7 teeth and her bottom jaw felt "soft" and her 2 bottom canines may be loose, and they did not clean her teeth as well as they would have liked, but they wanted to get out and get her awake. Now that kind of makes me angry as well, AFTER they spay her and pull 7 teeth with her on a "very light plain", NOW they are concerned with getting out and getting her awake, to me this should have been the concern when they realized she was not accepting the anesthetic....no?

| I just got back from the vet yet again with Nya. Her swelling was more pronounced this morning and she was tender to even touch her flanks, the vet said she is terribly bruised and swollen so he did an xray to make sure she had no bleeding in her belly. She did not thankfully. He gave her a shot of metacam for inflammation and a shot of ace promazine to calm her down a little and gave her sub q fluids. He said if she is not eating and drinking on her won by tomorrow I have to call him. She is to be on metacam for the next 5-7 days for swelling nad pain plus the torbutrol. She seems much calmer now.

| My heart is breaking for her. She is VERY high right now, she can hardly hold her eyes open. That is the ace promazine, but at least she seems comfortable now, she has stopped crying, she was crying so hard this morning and while we were at the vet. Mind you I was crying myself, the vet had said at first they may have to open her up again so he wanted to check for blood in her belly because of the amount of swelling she has. I just breathed a big sigh of relief when her belly was clear. Shaune is beside himself, he wants to go see the vet that did this and I told him no because I could not leave Nya alone to come bail him out of jail. I have NEVER seen a dog bruise and swell this bad from a freaking spay. And I still do not understand why they did not abort the procedure until we could find a way to do it without her feeling it. She did take a treat just now, so she is interested in eating, daddy said she gets chicken nuggets tonight (they are her favorite) and while not the healthiest thing she can have, at least she will have something in her belly and maybe just entice her to realize"hey I like food" normally she is a good eater. I am just sick over all of this, so is Shaune (he is pretty attached to this baby girl) in the 6 years we have been married the only times I have seen him even close to this upset about the dogs is when we lost Romeo and Theo. I was told I should write a review of this vet on Angies list....I think I just might, plus anywhere else that one can post reviews on vets, i sure do not want another baby to go thru this. This weekend has been a weekend from H*ll. I just hope we can keep her comfortable now, between the metacam and the torbutrol maybe we can keep a handle on it. Plus I do have extra ace promazine if absolutely needed. Now i do not mind paying vet bills, however since Friday we have put out: 400.00 for surgery 195.00 for ER visit and treatment yesterday 250.00 for Er visit and xrays and treatment today and the last 450.00 should NOT have been neccesary IMO. Hopefully she does not need to go back in now except for her 2 week check up.
