| ![]() Found this in my local online paper "Teacup Yorkie for sale - I have a t cup female Yorkie puppy for sale that will be ready in 3 wks. Dad is 3 lb. and mom 4 lb. so she will be very tiny. Black/tan in color. text for pics. 606/422/2824" oh puhhhh-lease! The other day I also had to explain to my friend that her 3lb yorkie puppy is NOT overweight, because there is no such thing as a "teacup". She went on to inform me that if a dog is under "so many pounds" it is classified as a teacup. I just said "OK" and smiled. Sighhh =/ |

| ![]() Duke is 4lbs on a good day. When we were in Petco a lady asked if he was a teacup. I replied that he is a standard Yorkie. The poor lady would walk off, look puzzled, and come back saying he has to be a teacup. It was useless! I just learned that you cannot educate stupied! |

| ![]() On my visit to see my dd in Chicago I was asked if Remy was a t-cup. To set the stage.. standing if front of a sub shop while dd and dh were inside to get subs to take home.. it was very very winding and getting ready to storm. I was holding Remy and this car pulls up... I am thinking "why would someone have the nerve to park there?" a big...big .. guy gets out and walks over to me to pet Remy.. and then he says..".Is that a t-cup? " I look down ..see his gun and I say "yes" ![]() He said his wife had two, and I for sure was not going to argue ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

| ![]() I know this is a somewhat older post, but the term "teacup" has always bothered me. It's always used to simply raise the price of a normal Yorkie. I guess it wouldn't bother me if people didn't abuse the term. I mean there are teacup Yorkies, teacup poodles, and by now, probably teacup turkeys. I don't even bother giving the teacup speech. If people ask if Crissy is a teacup, I say no. Last edited by Crissylillie; 07-11-2011 at 06:21 PM. |

I know for many the term doesn't bother them as long as a lay person is saying it and not a breeder, but where did they learn the term? Either they themselves or a friend or family member bought from one of those breeders, otherwise they wouldn't know or use the term. So I think there is still validity in the speech when and if the situation calls for it. Heck some people still think it's ok to buy from a pet shop. I want to give the pet shop=puppymill speech. It's a tough call.

| ![]() Our waiter at chilis keeps telling us about his teacup yorkie.... He recently found out we have 2 and asked about breeding with my female. Ummmm, to begin with she's 6 months old. Next, she's 3 1/2 pounds. And she's 6 months old. Besides I'm not interested in breeding her with a teacup yorkie. If she were ever to hit the breeding mark and I decided to breed her, it would be to a regular old standard yorkie lol.

| ![]() I only give the speech when I am teaching about Yorkies. When lay people ask me if mine are teacup Yorkies, I reply no, they are a toy breed. If they persist and are truely interested, I may expand what I say. The descriptive term 'teacup' is not going to go away, and is a generic word meaning small to most people. |
