| ![]() I got my puppy Kimchi when he was about 4 weeks old. In Korea thats just how they do things, and its not considered abnormal or cruel (even though I disagree!) I had the same worries! he only had 2 teeth on top the first day! We took him to the vet right away and had him checked out, and he was healthy (and got some vaccinations) We gave him puppy kibble for puppies under 3 months old, and would wet it with water if it was too hard, which was only once. Its been 6 weeks since then and he is about 10 weeks old and he is doing great. I just watched him carefully. He slept for 2 hours for every 20 minutes of being awake, playing, eating and potty. I kept his water and food full all the time and constantly offered it too him. He sleeps in a crate and uses the pee pad, I started that they day we brought him home and at 10 weeks he is doing good with both. At about 8 weeks a started giving him 4 small meals a day, instead of the "Free eating" And he is a healthy loving pup! I also kept him in a small fenced in area, with his toys, food pee pad and crate. He needs lots of sleep and constant monitoring. Good luck and I bet you will do great! | ![]() That poor pup! I hope you consider reporting them to animal control! Unfortunately, not every 4 wk old pup they sell will go to a responsible person like yourself.

| ![]() Try not to worry too much. I've had to hand rear a couple of litters from birth in the past. Don't forget that you'll need to keep her warm, the most important thing, & clean as well with no mum to do it. Feed her four small meals a day. At that age I feed two meat meals & two cereal, make sure everything is mush or chopped small, & not too hot but not stone cold either. Can you get a bitch milk substitute? I use Lactol but not sure if that's available over there. Mix it with puppy porridge, baby porridge will substitute if you can't get it. After she's eaten clean her face & make sure she wees, you'll have to clean her bum after she goes, then give her a wrapped hot water bottle to snuggle up to. She should not have been sold so young but she should be fine if you spend time looking after her. Being a small breed means you need to be a bit more vigilant. Have to say, with my other slightly bigger breed, some of the mums have been sick to death of the puppies at four weeks, & wanted to get away as much as possible, while the puppies have been doing their utmost to eat everything I feed their mum! ![]() So try not to worry too much & enjoy her! I bet she'll be particularly tied & loving to you. Of the puppies I kept over the years the hand reared ones were always the extra special ones. Last edited by Meggie; 05-31-2011 at 07:43 AM. |

| ![]() Thank you all so much for the advice..Im about to post a couple pictures. Ella is doing very good and I can see shes grown a little bit. We ended up visiting the vet last tuesday and she said that she looked and sounded good and that I was very lucky (she also weighed in at 1.3 pounds). She is 5 1/2 weeks right now and Im still feeding her mushed up dry puppy food mixed with hartz replacement milk. shes doing good with that but she doesnt like to drink much water. I keep a heater in my room so its about 75 degrees in here she spends most of her time bundled up sleeping or cuddling but she is getting to be a little more playful and adventurous. Shes getting her first shots in a week so im looking forward to seeing how much she weighs by then. Thank you everyone for the helpful advice! |
