House Yorkies I was just wondering if any one has dogs that are house dogs and dont go outside. |
Like live inside? Or never go out? I consider mine house dogs because they live inside and are never outside unsupervised. However, they go outside to walk, play, see things, relax, etc. |
My pups are indoor doggies but they go out for potty, play and walks as well. I do have pee pads in the house just in case though. However, I met a lady at the vet who NEVER lets her yorkies outside.... they potty in her porch and then she cleans it up.... She has 4. Oh, and they're not allowed to walk on the vet's floor because of the diseases the might catch... So I guess some pups are indoor ONLY all the time! |
My BamBam goes outside to play and loves to go on walks. He uses pee pee pads in the house. |
I would hope there aren't a whole lot of yorkies that didn't go outside. Rio and Bullet are NEVER outside unsupervised, but they love to go for walks and play in the dogpark and go to outdoor malls... I couldn't imagine them NOT going out to enjoy the sunshine and the fresh air! |
My babies are indoor dogs, but they go outside for walks, play, and car rides. That would not be too much fun just being inside all day long... |
Yorkies are terriers! It would be a travesty if they NEVER got to go outside. ZoE is pee pad trained and spends most of her time in doors, especially in winter, but she loves going outside & sniffing around and chasing squirrels/birds/blowing dandelion fuzzies. And she needs exercise! Nothing like a good long walk outside :) |

Sorry if no one likes the idea, but mine do not go outside unless we are holding them. We started it with Gypsy and kept it up when we got our others. We have pee pads for them. They (4) play with each other and rough house and run around in our home. I am not an outdoor person and can not take walks very much due to health issues. When dh is outside mostly he is doing chores outside and can not watch them. They have all been declared healthy by the vet esp the pom who the vet sd was in the best shape she has ever seen a pom in. The only one who is a little overweight is the newest family member who was 15 mos old when we got him and tends to overeat. Before us he was bullied by another dog so that may have something to do with it. |
House Yorkie Sadie was a house puppy his winter. She has the washable pee pads, and that is what she used. We also had a pad in the attached garage. She loves the outside, but she wasn't so eager to go out when it was cold, and I hate the cold. She goes potty outside now again, but we still have the pads out, and she uses them too. It can work. She is 11 months old. |
Harley doesn't always go outside, cause he's indoor trained. We've lived in apartments since we've had him so he stays in most of the time. We play a lot inside plus our agility classes are in an indoor facility, but now that it's nice out (we live in Canada so our winters and spring are crappy) we've started going out a bit more, it's been pouring rain here a lot though, but as soon as it's nice we're going to do daily walking again. Why do you ask? Let me know if you have any specific questions. If you're considering having a dog that spends a lot of time inside there are a lot of things that need to be done training wise to assure the pup gets enough exercise and doesn't destroy your house of boredom. We had a lot of construction and pitbulls/big untrained dogs in our old apartment building so Harley spent a good 3-4 months inside cause it wasn't safe (hence it being our OLD place) so I'm happy to provide tips on how to keep them occupied properly. |
My Baby, IsaBella is strictly a house baby |
It's not just about exercise, although that is very important, but dogs need to see new things and experience different things. Imagine never leaving your house even if you ran on a treadmill and stayed thin, you would be bored out of your mind. What about getting some sunshine? My dogs love just laying out in the sun! |
Our Sophie thinks she belongs outdoors. She wants to be out, even when it is very cold. We let her be with us when we are outdoors, and she loves car rides and going for walks. Yes, she is a true terrier. She keeps the perimeter of our home well patrolled (watching from inside).:) |
Both of my babies are inside. But, go out to potty and walk a bit. It is so hot in Georgia and I hate the heat. So does my babies... |
I try to keep my indoors.. I'm scared that a fox will get her.. but she calls me and scratches the door with those little eyes saying PLEEEEASE... then I have to stop everything and go with her to the garden... my daugther loves it as well.. :) |
I mainly keep mine indoors. But I go out on the balcony I let them go with me. They do not run down the stairs , ever. So i trust them to come out with me. I think that it is important for any dog to at least get some fresh air and light everyday, despite being indoors most of the time. My 2 are fine. I do see that Suzi likes to lay in the sun . It is extremely hot here in the summertime. I can't take them out then. But, I try during the earlier hours and later at night . Suzi and Miely do tire themselves out even when indoors. But, I try to allow them outside time with me each day even if it is only out on the balcony. |
Princess went out several times a day to potty until sub-zero wind chills this winter when she'd walk on 3 legs or just sit & shiver after about one minute. So then I decided to try pad training. She's in the house to potty but I try to take her out several times a week even if it's just to take the garbage out or get mail so she can sniff around for a few minutes. She can also go on the balcony rain, snow or shine if she wants. This summer we'll be at my parent's with a fenced in yard a lot, as well as more consistent walking (I hope!). She loves it outside & there's no way I could keep her in, but to each their own, we're not all the same just as our yorkies aren't!:) |

Mine are for the most part house dogs, they never go out unsupervised |
Tibbe is an inside dog, of course, but he goes out for pottying, playing and training, also goes out for car trips, etc. He's never out without me right nearby though. |
Miss Lizzie and Mr. Darcy are indoors most of the time, or out on the deck. They will go potty out there. Mr. Darcy only goes outside, but Miss Lizzie goes on pp pads - although sometimes she will go on one of my throw mats, so now I have been putting pp pads on them and that works. I walk them now (I also live in rural Canada and snow/salt and crappy Spring weather this year stopped me until now!). I was surprised at how quickly they both learned the word "walk" - I just say "do you want to go for a walk?" and they both get sooooo excited - my only concern is - I worry about other dogs being out. There is one lab, 2 doors down, who is tied up on a heavyish rope, on their front, that runs at us - barking, barking and gets yanked back by his rope EVERY time we walk by and I always worry that his rope will come loose. If I get their harnesses out, not saying the word walk they also get excited - until I get out in the driveway and stop at the car - then total disappointment!!!:p |
Foxy is strictly an indoor dog, but with that being said, she goes out to potty, play and go for walks. But this means she is never left outside unattended ever! |
Mine are inside dogs, however....they go outside with me to play, go to "town" with me, go to the lake with us.....but, yes, they "live" inside! |
Like most, Magnus & Zoey is indoor but goes outside for walks and such. Also, I take Magnus on leash when we're at the vet/pet store. But, I clean them with the wipes from head to tail and spray the conditioner on them when we get home no matter where we've been. |
Mine too are indoor dogs. They potty indoor also - on peepads. The only time they go outside is when I hold them - also. They go on trips with me everywhere but are not allowed out on their own. |
Ellie is an inside dog (she spends most of her time inside and NEVER EVER sleeps outside unless she is camping with the family or whatever). She is not allowed outside unsupervised. I can't imagine having strictly an indoor dog. Perhaps in the rare case that a pup is extremely immunocompromised, etc. and can't go out, that would be fine. Dogs are almost entirely wolves. They need to go out. It isn't necessary for their physical health as long as they can be exercised inside, but IMO it is important for their psychological well being. My girl is allowed to be outside, walk in the grass, etc. She is not allowed to go near dead animals or eat bugs. |
Teddy spends most of his day indoors, but he walks my boys to the bus stop every morning with me and helps let the chickens out. When it's not raining (which it seems to be most every day in southeastern PA) he goes outside to garden with me. He uses pp inside, but will do his business outside if that's where we are and he needs to go. :) |
At the office, Leroy has a doggy door that allows him to pass from inside the office to outside into a secure, covered 5' x10' fenced area with pea gravel for his potty area, and also up a few steps onto our enclosed deck. Inside he has the run of the place and is most often found snuggled up alongside my leg in my office or perched on the back of the love seat snoozing or watching the world go by. At our house in the country, he has the run of the house, and for his potty needs, he goes down a couple of stairs to my craft room where my husband installed a doggy door that connects his inside potty area (an exercise pen set on vinyl flooring for those cold, wet winter months) --- to an outside potty area (a fully enclosed 4' x 4' covered, screened and wire fenced area with pea gravel). We have lots of hawks, eagles, and other critters, including bear and skunks, so we can block the doggy door and keep him safely inside. Yes, he is spoiled. And he is never alone outside his secured areas without me. Even while traveling on our motorcycles, he goes with me (tethered) everywhere. (He is a Therapy Dog.) Before I was permitted to adopt Bad Leroy Brown and his sister from the rescuer in Wisconsin, I had to pass an unbelievable thorough application process and provide references and pics of the living area, inside and out, and construct enclosed secure areas their outside activities. I think it is a great idea to keep them under constant observation. The thought of someone dog-napping one of our furbabies or another animal (hawk/dog/fox) doing harm is a horrible thought. |
