I can relate, Jaspermom! I have 2 Yorkies, 2 Shelties, and an Eskie. (I know it sounds nuts, but without children, these REALLY are my babies!!!) Our first Sheltie-13yo-is really mellow and rarely barks. The second one-11yo-is off-the-wall-wild and a barker. (His nickname is The Barking Head!!) I can understand haow he might drive your hubbby nuts! :p BTW would your sister care for another Sheltie? jk |

Just curious...how different ARE yorkies and shelties in personality? I've never owned either... Francie |
husbands are crazy My husband and I love animals too much. That's why we have so many. We can't say, "no" to eachother. It's really not a good thing. I would think well.... he did let me buy the turtle, so why shouldn't he have another lizard? So it never ends. As for the dogs and cat. My husband only really likes the pug. I it's because he's homophobic or something. Whenever I catch him petting the cat he gets mad at me if I say anything. He also said he'd never be caught walking a yorkie because it's a "foo-foo" dog. When our pug was a puppy he would make me hold him in public. So I think it's a guy thing too. They think it makes them look less masculine I guess. |
I have lived with animals my whole life and have NEVER been without a dog before i moved in with my fiance. . . I had a golden retriever when we moved in together but i opted to leave her with my parents because we couldnt afford the pet deposit at the time (i live close by, so its not like i was abandoning her... i stopped by all the time) my fiance came from a home where his mom would get a dog, then give it away when they couldnt keep it for some reason or other ect... so he had never had a real bond with an animal before.... all i can say is that i created a monster...lol When we moved in together my dog died shortly after, i was deeply depressed because i missed the companionship when i came home and the "love you no matter what" thing... It got so bad that i didnt smile for months and my fiance ok'd the decision to get a yorkie (i have become allergic to dogs) we got toby and my fiance has a wonderful bond with "his boy" (its funny how he calls him that considering toby looks at him like hes an idiot every time he tries to give him a command  ) anyways, shortly after toby we now have a cat (which my fiance brouight home from work and i would also like to point out that i am allergic to cats  ) .... so, as you can tell....... i have created a monster.... i used to be the kid bringing animals home, but i have to say that the next time he tries to adopt an animal in need i am putting my foot down |
I honestly think my fur babies will cost me my marriage one day. My husband says my kiddos are ugly but I know he is jealous because I love them so much. I love them so much that the day my hubby would say get rid of them he would be the first out the door. He is a big dog man, he loves his dobies and german shepherd sooo much. Myra |

My Shelties are like night and day in looks and personality. You can see pictures in my gallery. Sorry but I don't know how to post a link. Marley is my Interior Decorator son. VERY mellow, doesn't like to get dirty, won't fetch, hardly barks and loves to 'help' me in the kitchen. He never leaves my side. He was 'pet qualtity from a breader. Has a small compact body, a thick luxurious coat and undercoat, a domed forehead and delicate features. Dempsey is my Truck Driver son. He's a manly-man dog. Hyper, athletic, always barking and couldn't care less about food. He will fetch (and usually catch) until your arm falls off. If there is mud, water or action-he's right in the middle of it. He likes to herd us and the other dogs, and gets anxious when he can't see my hubby. He came from a woman on a farm that was a friend of my in-laws. He's got a long light body and a thin, silky, shiny coat. Long schnooter and flat forehead. They weigh about the same, but Dempsey looks twice Marley's size. They are smart, easy to train, wonderfully sweet and gentle and are great with the little furbabies and children. Very loyal and lovable. The only downside is the shedding and the barking and I understand most are barkers. For what it's worth they're both AKC. I'm gonna' guess you know plenty about Yorkies from here... Bet you didn't think you'd get a novel, but I love them so much, I could go on and on. |
When I was married , it was hell on earth about my Yorkie . At the time , I only had Maļa . When she was doing something , I was blamed and received insults . One day , I received an ultimatum like " it's me or Her " . I chose Maļa and it has been over between us . |

Excellent Sheltie personality descriptions! Quote:
Sigh... I sure would love another Sheltie, but am so happy to have Wosie, I can stay content as a one-dog mommy no problem! |
I asked for a yorkie almost 3 years ago for my birthday, My husband just kept saying NO!! He didn't want another dog. After Bell was with us for about 1 week, you could tell he was attached.. Bell had Lilly and there was never a question in my mind that I would keep a female, he didn't gat a word in that decision. But the hubby was the one that told me to get Petey!! Go figure. I don't think he likes that they are a constance chore, but he loves them just the same! :p |
My husband loves our babies as much as I do!!!! He is Dad & I am Mom!! We argue who loves them the most & which one loves us the most! It is funny. My husband lifts weights & is in shape so people think he would be the macho type with animals or that he would just have big dogs, but that is soooooooo not true. He gets on the floor with them & plays. They get attention when he first gets home from work before I do! LOL I can't imagine being with someone who doesn't feel the same as I do. It would cause an arguement & I guess I wouldn't have my babies to begin with becuase he wouldn't have wanted them to begin with. He always has them talking to him like "we love you Daddy" & he answers back. Silly stuff like that. |
My husbad loves them just as much as I do, but we both favor different pets a bit. He loves buying stuff for them and going to pet stores and things like that. I love it. If we had a bigger house and/or a fenced in yard I would love to get more animals. (that will stop me from having children-hehehhe) |
After being together for 27 years, (married almost 25) I think I trained him well. :D |
Sometimes, my husband loves them as much as I do... But then just an hour ago, he says "I'm sick of all these animals, I don't want them anymore".... And this was because he was sitting on the floor playing with Pixie and when he got up, had cat hair on his black shirt. I don't understand why he doesn't like them at times, it's not like he really has to do anything for them (maybe give them food or water occasionally, but that's it)! He seems to get really frustrated with the cat hair (you can't help but to leave the house with some of it, we have three cats for Pete's sake!) Yet it's his fault we have three cats now instead of just the two... We found a stray a few months ago that ended up being really sweet, and he was the one that wanted to keep it! We have our Yorkie, three cats, two guinea pigs, a couple button quail (they're little birds) and a lizard.... He's just going to have to deal with it though. I've had pets since the day I was born (my mom had a 5 year old cat), and I plan on having them for the rest of my life! |
