| New Yorkie Mama!! Help please?? Hi my yorkie recently had puppies this past Thursday... She is 4lbs and has had 4.. Its her first litter... It was 3 girls and a boy.. I took them all to the vet this morning and he seemed to think everything was fine with both mom and pups.... She keeps sucking and pulling on her teats every now and then though... Has anyone elses yorkie ever done that??? |

However, is her milk flowing readily....are you keeping her breasts clean and is she receiving plenty of food to eat, as well as calcium supplement? With 4 pups and her as small as she is....you must keep her nutrition up, at least 5 meals a day including a scrambled egg a day. Also, order Oral Cal Plus from Revivalanimal.com.

| Yes... I have been feeding her... I leave food down for her all day and have made her a scrambled egg... I have also given her a vitamin supplement for calcium that the vet gave us... She has plenty of milk coming out and the puppies are fine but she keeps biting and sucking on her own as well and I just wanted to know if that was normal or not??? | I wondered about your question. I have no idea, but I was looking around the net and found someone that had the same problem and another person responded with this answer, but I don't know if it's accurate or not: Is your dog pregenant or nursing? My dog does it too but she is nursing pups and the vet said she does it because her nipple may be clogged and it probably itches and/or hurts so she sucks it herself to unplug it so she can feel relief and also the pups can get milk from it. Why does a dog suck their own nipples?
