| I'm a newbie I'm a new member here and I look forward to meeting everyone and talking about our babies. I have a 3 month old Yorkie named Chloe. I need a little bit of advice. I live in an apartment and I'm trying to pad train her (she hasn't had her last set of shots yet so I won't take her outside yet). I put her on the pad and she will lay down on it. We go to bed and she pees on the bed. She knows what the pad is for because she does use it....but some days are better than others. I've tried to put her in her crate but to hear her you would think she is getting beat, lol. She hates it! She does well in a playpen at my mom's house when we are down there for the day...so should I invest in a playpen for my Chloe? Thanks! |

| Hi. Welcome. I used a little play pen type pen to housetrain, and mine really took to it. I would feed them in the pen so they would like their play pen. I also stick a pee pad and water. Yorkies are notorious for being hard to potty train, especially the younger the pup is. |

| Hi Chloe's Momma and welcome to YT. I got my Bella at 11 weeks and she is doing quite well. I do take her outside most of the time and she uses her pee pad when inside, most of the time.. LOL. there are still accidents. BUT she hasn't gone on the bed, Thank goodness! I don't know about a playpen so I can't help you with that one but I did want to welcome you. Post pics of your baby. We love those!

| Hi! Welcome to YT. I tried to crate Belle when she first came home at about 16 weeks. The first night she was perfect and slept quietly all night. The second night she woke up and whined off and on. The third night she barked and cried. I gave up and took her into bed and she's slept with me ever since. She's never had an accident at night and sleeps all night long. I was lucky, I think its because she wasn't such a young puppy when she came home. My shih tzu on the other hand, was about 9 wks old when I got him. He didn't do well in the crate AT ALL. It sounded like he was being tortured so from the first night I had him in the bed. He had several accidents on my bed before I realized that wasn't going to work. I bought him a nice cozy dog bed and started keeping pee pads in my room. He slept just fine on the floor in his bed in my room with a gate at the door so he couldn't wander around the house. Once he reliably didn't need to use the pads at night he was allowed back into the bed.

| Thank you for your suggestions. I've put her doggie bed in our room right beside my bed and that doesn't work, either. She cries until I put her back into bed with me. I don't want her to cry all night and think we don't love her so I let her sleep with us. She sleeps well with us when she isn't trying to steal my husband's or my pillow, lol. We get a kick out of her every day. We have a 7 year old and Chloe follows her around and if she is wearing pants she will latch on to the bottom of my daughter's pants. It's hilarious! I know she's a puppy and will probably outgrow the chewing and biting but I've got to get a handle on the potty situation. I think I'll try the pen at home now instead of just at my mom's. |
