Shivering My little boy Brutis has been doing this all day today! He has never done this unless he was nervous. He has nothing to be nervous about today as we are home and all is well. I have heard that this is a sign of pain. If he is still doing this in the morning...we are going to the vet. What are your experiences with your babies doing this? I'm really worried about him. He acts fine as far as walking and everything but he didn't come into the kitchen with my other two babies for a treat.:animal-pa |
Poor Brutis. I've heard too that shivering is a sign of pain. I would take him to the vet just to be on the safe side. Have you checked him to see if there is something stuck in a paw or something? I hope everything will be OK. |
I'd check his anal glands if you haven't already. If you can't figure it out, I don't know if I would wait til morning to get him looked at. |
Yes me and hubby have checked him all over. Doesn't seem to be anything out of the ordinary except the shivering and of course the fact that he didn't come in the kitchen for a treat. |

Are his gums pink and moist? Did he eat anything at all today? has he peed and pooped? |
This may sound ridiculous, but is he cold? Have you checked his temperature? |
Just checked the anal glands and they are not swollen. Nothing wrong on that end! Yes he has eaten and drank today. Just now he went outside with my other two. I will for sure keep a close check on him tonight. He seems to be fine except for the shivering which has me worried! For sure....vet in the morning. |

If he didn't want a treat and come in around the other dogs, could it be possible one of them jumped on him for some reason? Just a thought. I know Tina doesn't see well and she will slap at the others and Dudley is afraid of her. Her nails can be sharp and he will run when he sees her coming. |
Any storms in your area? Some pups get nervous when bad weather is approaching... You could try holding him in your lap. If he is cold, that would warm him up. |

No storms tonight. We have had storms over the past few days but nothing that major really and I always hold them during bad weather. And the other two didn't jump on him! He always jumps on them LOL! I just have my worry hat on tonight i guess! I can always come to YT and get good advice.:) |

I know you said no storms but could it be that he sinces something. My little Mandy that passed away in 2008, use to start shakeing before it started to thunder, rain or anything. She knew way ahead of time it was getting ready to rain. Hope you find out whats wrong. You sound like me. I worry about everything with my babies. lol!! |
Did you check his gum color? Pink is good. Also, does his tummy feel hard or painful? Does he look distended or anything? |
His temp is 104.2. |

kjc can you chime in here? |
I will take it again to be sure! I wish I had have taken him on to the vet today! We started to the vet and then he seemed fine so we came back home! Right now he is in here with me acting fine......rolling on the floor and acting all happy! Maybe he got into something..lordy these furbabies can give us mommy's gray hair. I am going to take his temp again though! Will let ya know what it is in a few minutes! |

Yeah, you need to get that checked out tonight. Usually with a high temp they just want to lay around... very lethargic. |
If his temp is that high he needs to be seen now. I almost lost a yorkie years ago when I came home and found him acting strange. I took him to the vet and his temp was 105. The vet stayed with him for 6 hours (until midnight) to get the fever down. I hope you can get him seen tonight. Please keep us posted. |
His temp is at 103.7 now. What do you all think I should do?? It would break my heart to lose him. I have had him since he was 11 weeks old and he's almost 4! He isn't acting sick in any way, shape or form. |
Fevers above 104 can trigger seizures, so it's very important to get treatment meds to bring it down. A little alcohol on the ear flaps and paw pads will bring it down temporarily. Water stays wet too long and can cause chills and a too low temp. |
I personally would go to the emergency vet, but I'll admit that I'm a doggy hypochondriac. Maybe you can try to lower his fever by following kjc's advice. |
He's fighting off some kind of infection. Best to get it checked out tonight, or you'll have to stay up all night monitoring his temp every half hour and you'll probably end up taking him in anyway, 3 or 4 in the morning. Usually a temp that high doesn't just go away on it's own. |
Thanks guys! I have tried to call the vet but the line is busy so i will try the alcohol on the ears and paws! And we will for sure be going to the vet first thing in the morning! Thank you for all of the good advice!! I really appreciate it! |
Please watch him throughout the night and keep us updated. |
We just went through that with Kayla over getting to excited at the vet's office. She almost goes into like a panic attack. Her fever hit 106 which the vet said was stroke stage. They began to bathe her down, body, tummy, paws with alcohol. Put fans on her. You have to get their little body cooled down. Personally, I would be on the way to the vet or Emergancy vets. Hope that baby gets okay. Kayla's problem they think is CT. There is a reason why that fever is that high. Good luck. |
I have put the alcohol on his ears and feet! Like I said...he seems fine but I am worried about the fever and shivering! I won't sleep a wink tonight! |
