Biewer or Parti? Which do you prefer? Like all of us, I've seen the many "Parti" and "Biewer" debate threads that always end up being closed and can sometimes take a nasty turn. I've noticed normally its breeders posting and debating and not too many pet owners posting. So it got me wondering.....as a pet owner...what do you prefer? The AKC Registered Parti Yorkie or the Biewer (which is registered in Germany or there are now registrations in the US but not accepted by AKC) Hoping more pet owners will post their opinions and not have it turned into a breeder debate :) Just always wondered. I'll go first by saying I love them both. LOVE the tail of the biewer. But I think I prefer the Parti since the AKC does accept them. They are both gorgeous dogs though. |
Biewer, biewer, biewer, biewer. One for each of mine. :D Love the specific color placement and once I owned the first....adore their personality. |
I think both are gorgeous- like you I kind of like the full tail of the Biewer but obviously little stumps are okay too since I adore my Yorkies nubs. From a totally inexperienced/ uneducated eye it always appears to me that Biewers have a slightly different build then Parti's which I like better. I am planning for my next little monster to be a Biewer. |

I think I could go for one calm dog in the bunch- but the poor thing might not make it here with my devil children. |

Honestly I believe both biewers and partis are essentially the same - tri colored yorkies. I do prefer a full tail now that I've had both types of tails. With Razz I've got the best of both, a parti yorkie with a tail, registered AKC♥ What I do notice is how much more of a terrier personality Razz has than any other traditional yorkie I've encountered. I don't know if this personality trait is specific to Razz's parti ancestors, or if all tri color yorkies have more of the terrier personality. |
Neither. I don't consider them yorkies. |

My yorkies are neurotic...my biewers aren't. |

IDK, I've never had a Parti, but they are both beautiful dogs. My Biewer is definitely a nut case... and she's so smart... maybe a slight edge on my Yorkies...she teases them relentlessly. So funny. And yes, the barking... 4 am last night she decides it's time to play. Geez! During walks she must annouce to the world that she is out and about! As for the AKC, I think there's plenty of room for both. I was so POed watching the show in February, they must have added at least 15-20 new large breeds to the accepted list. Didn't see one little dog added. Many breeds have color or coat or size variations that are judged separately, in their own class. I don't understand why they no longer accept black and tan/gold as a legitimate color in Yorkies, and I don't understand what the big deal is why both Partis and Biewers can't be added and judged in individual classes... heck they could even add tinies too! .. After the show, I ended up thinking they are just a bunch of little dog haters! I love all dogs, big and small. They all have something to offer. I do appeciate that. But the whole thing just really seems unfair in my mind. (They even allow mutt-cats in cat shows...I just don't get it.) Sorry for the rant.... :D Next... |
Biewers! I have had many Yorkies over the years and now that I know the Biewer I love the laid back personality and the fact that they don't bark much at all. Moo and Maddie are 3 1/2 and I bet I've only heard them bark a handful of times. My Biewers love everyone and they get along well with other dogs. The exception to that is Peanut...he was unsure around younger kids because he hadn't been around them but now that my grandson has been coming over almost daily he is doing just fine with him. I love the full tail of the Biewer, the texture of their coat, the three colors on their head and the way they smile at everyone...you just can't beat their personality. |
Lookswise, Biewer! :) But I don't have that much knowledge about either yet... but I hope to have a Biewer someday!!! |
Another vote for Biewer. I am planning on a getting one for my next dog when the time is right. I have been speaking with a breeder who has bred both Yorkies and Biewers and she feels they have a more laid back personality as well. |
Since I have a Biewer, I am partial to the biewer. Bogie is a barker and true terrier that is for sure, but he is such a loving little guy and loves to lay in my arms like a little baby. He can play nonstop for hours and then snuggle up with and sleep like a baby. He is a charmer and a little love bug. I have never seen a parti in person, but from the pictures I have seen here, they are beautiful too. |
The controversy between partis and Biewers is just insane...it all seems to hinge on what ancient documents someone can dig up concerning Yorkies. I also don't understand why when a piebald Yorkie was born in the US, it became a fault, while when the same thing happened in Germany, it became its own breed that looks exactly like a Yorkie except for color. I can't tell the difference between them by looking. I do like the fact that the Biewers have long tails though. But a Parti could have that too if you just left the tail long. |
If there was no standard Yorkie, I would get a Bliewer, and a Cane Corso! But, there is a standard, so that is all I will own. But to each their own. Get what you want and what you will love. |
I wouldn't say no to either one! :D... |

I really love them both. Like Jen, I have a parti who has a full tail - so I have the best of both worlds. I love my girl. I do love some of the super dark colors that Biewers have on their face - it's just so striking! And it goes without saying, but I love my non-parti Yorkie babies too :D! |
3 Attachment(s) Defintely a parti!! :D I love that I have a tricolored Yorkie and I ADORE that Yorkshire Terrier spunk! Livi is more than I could have ever asked for in a Yorkie (and then some)!!! |

The breed has now, however, been recognized in other countries by registries recognized by AKC and show in FCI confirmation shows. |
