| ![]() Hi, I'm new to this forum, I'm really learning alot about Yorkies. As my username indicates, I love cats, I have 3 and have never owned a dog before. I am getting a baby yorkie in a few weeks. Her name is Gracie, she's now 8 wks. old. We have been visiting with her for 5 wks. now getting to know her and viceversa. I want to do everything right and start off developing good habits, rather than trying to change habits after she learns them. I love her already and really hope my cats accept her without problems. |

| ![]() Congratulations. It should work out, as long as your cats aren't aggressive towards little dogs. There have been yorkies that have had their eyes scratched. You will want to be sure to keep any litter boxes out of your yorkie's reach. Puppies tend to snack and can become very sick.

| ![]() Hi, You sound alot like me. I had ALWAYS had cats, never a dog and then Bella Rose the 4 lb. Yorkie entered our lives . . . she has wrapped her paws around our hearts big time and we are now DOG PEOPLE. Yorkies are a very specialized breed and you need to educate yourself. I spent hours on this forum and learned so much. It helped me to begin the process of becoming a knowledgable Yorkie owner. Spend lots of time reading all you can on this forum. The more you know ahead of time, the better you will be in preparing for the arrival of your furbaby. Believe me, a dog is nothing like a cat in needs, personality, etc. etc. The members on here are GREAT and they love to help new Yorkie owners that are willing to ask questions, listen and learn. Good luck to you and keep those questions coming. Be sure to post a picture of your baby once he/she arrives. Good luck and get ready to have your heart changed forever. |

| ![]() You will so be a dog person once you have your pup home. I can't believe how much love I have for my little girl. I would take her everywhere with me if I could. ![]() I too was a cat person. My cat was almost 18 when I got my pup. I knew kitty would be going to the Rainbow Bridge. She did live to be 20 even with diabetes. Tabitha and Calleigh would tolerate each other. When Tabitha passed last March Calleigh looked everywhere for her. My friend is a "Cat Vet" and she came to my house and put her to sleep. I so appreciated that. I let Calleigh sniff her. I think that did help. I have a little area that I keep with Tabitha's picture and collar. When I dust there, the bell on the collar will ring sometimes. Calleigh starts looking for the kitty. It's a little sad, but nice that she remembers her too. You will have the time of your life with your new pup. ![]()

| ![]() I have 6 cats and 2 yorkies. The cats came after the yorkies so it was more the yorkies adapting to the cats. They accepted them and will even bark to let us know that one of them is outside and wanting in. Every now and then a cat will overstep their boundaries and they will put them in their place by barking or growling at them but that is the only conflict we ever have.

| ![]() Congrats and welcome! Since this is your first dog - Just a heads up so you're not surprized or worried when you bring your puppy home - your cats are probably going to take some time to adjust (but they will ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
