| car riding I was going to ask this question in the traveling section but the threads there all looked like they were about flying. Charlie is very nervous about riding in the car he has been since I have had him. does anyone know why he might be or if there is anything that can be done to help him. most dogs will jump in the car and be ready to go but not charlie i have to pick him up and physically put him in the car. then he just shakes I feel so bad for him. the farthest that I go with him is about 60 miles to my moms, at some point during the drive he lays down and looks pitiful but for the first part he is a nervouse wreck. I thought maybe by taking him in the car more it might help but dont want to do this unless it IS helping. well thanks

| Belle would get carsick every time we went for a ride. She started drooling a lot, also. I read a lot of good things about the Snoozer carseat. That was the best thing I could've gotten for her! She loves looking out the window, and has only gotten sick a couple of times. It was the best thing for her. Good luck.

| Gizmo is the same way!!! Does your baby cry/whine the whole way? Gizmo does and i feel horrible and he has gotten better over the last 6 months that we have had him. What i started doing with Gizmo is..... Putting him in the car and then driving to a park.... Letting him walk around and play... So that he realizes that if he goes in the car he gets to go to the park or play with my family members. I did find that little short trips a couple of times a week did help!! Try that.... OR if your baby is really nervous like u said you have to pick them up and put them in the car... A couple of times a day take Charlie out to the car and put him in it and then take him out. You dont have to start the engine... Just so he gets used to getting in and out... Then you can start turning the engine on or even going to a park. I also give Gizmo treats when he is quiet in the car... Not all the time just once in a while so that he doesn't always expect them! Good luck i am sorry i rambled but this is what has worked for us and i can completely relate!!!! PM me if you want |

| Darwin gets congested and shaky when he's in the var longer than 5 minutes..He's excited leaving the house and then getting in the car but the motion makes him feel yucky. He'll throw up if I don't rub his back the whole ride. I did discover that his doggles make him braver and he'll try to stick his little nose out the window now. Also, I put on a coat over his shirt to make him feel more secure, then rub his back. It's been a year and he's still not really liking it all that much. He just gets car sick.

| A car seat for dogs, I am going to have to look into that. Charlie used to get sick but that is when I was letting him ride in the front, it was suggested to me by my dad that since my care was front wheel drive the vibration might be bothering him so I started putting him in back and he hasnt been sick since, (not sure if thats why) and he dont whine or cry but he just pants. I always put him in the back seat I can always see him panting and hear him. he is not a jumper or anything he stays in one place I am going to order him one of those thunder shirts for stoorms I wonder if that would help with car rides too?????

| Trixie is nervous in the car also. I have a snoozer carseat for her and leave it in the den (when we aren't in the car ) for her to use as an extra bed. She actually loves to relax in it while she is eating a snack or chewing on a toy. She is much better in the car since brought the seat in the house. I guess she started to feel relaxed in it and felt better when she was in it in the car also.

| Try going for very short drives and make them fun. When I first started training Lolli (she is 5 months old now and LOVES to ride) we would go to the Dariy Queen and get a vanilla cone and share it. She'd get a lick and I'd get one . If Dairy Queen was closed we'd head to McD's for nuggets. She also has a Snoozer car seat which she loves! |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | When Rhett was smaller, we could only travel with him in a carrier. Something about being enclosed would settle him down. Now, we've found that classical music will put both he and Scarlett in to a mellow mood during road trips.

No Longer a Member | I've gotten Rizzo the outward hound car booster seat. It's super easy to put on and take off, and since having him ride in it he isn't quite so bad about car rides. He doesn't run and hide when I grab the keys and call him, and I've even gotten him to hop in the car though, he still gets a little shakey, but it's not as bad anymore. Apparently being able to see out the windows is calming. Good luck, I got the booster seat from PetSmart for $25 and it's really sturdy. |

| Well I am at least glad to know that Charlie is not the only one that does this, not that im happy your babies go through it but it really worries me. and its good to know there are things I can try and I was feeling cruel putting him in the car trying to make it easier on him but a trip to DQ sounds kinda good LOL
