| Quick question!!! I posted this in health and diet, but not many are on there and I'm about to head to petsmart right now....... I know this is a repetitive question, but I am about to head to petsmart. Bevo is getting low on food, and since hanging around YT, I have learned that I am basically feeding him "crap"! He's been on Eukaneuba his entire life and I thought I was doing so great by feeding him that! ( I really did!) So.... What should I buy right now? Petsmart is an hour away so should I get more than one food? Money isn't an issue, so please just advise on what is best for my baby! THANKS!

| Sorry I can't really help because I have Elsa and Tia on Eukanuba. Tried other brands and it was a no go...they did like Chicken Soup for the...but Petsmart here doesn't sell it. I got samples in the mail. They do eat their Eukanuba everyday. |

| Is there another store closer that sells Taste of the Wild? Try this location: Taste of the Wild : Dealer Locator I feed the "foul" flavor-more ideal for Yorkies. I love it and just found out it's a 6 star food-not to mention it's cheaply priced. Dog Food Reviews - Main Index - Powered by ReviewPost closest to you 2o minutes: Tractor Supply #1132 1001 N. | If you are going to Petsmart, 2 good brands are Wellness and Blue Buffalo. I feed Sophie Wellness. I think it's the Super 4 mix (she just got off the Super 5 puppy food from Wellness and eats big girl food now...lol.)

| Usually the pet stores like that don't have that great of food. We feed our pups Orijen, which is premium dog food and have noticed a great change in their energy level and health since we've switched, but they don't sell it at Petsmart.

| Bevo does eat his eukanuba great! Just read it was "junk"....also read alot of dogs were "itchy" because of it and Bevo has always scratched at his eyes. His vet said he has allergies, and we give him meds when it gets out of control. Just wondering if his food is the cause?

| I agree with going to Tractor Supply and purchasing Taste of the Wild. I feed all four varieties (they don't like the Pacific Stream as well as the others) and have never had an issue swaping varieties. |

| Grains especially (definitely corn-corn is baddd) can cause a warming sensation equating to itchy...but so can many other ingredients...don't feed the BB with oats but its good too. I feed TotW because it is so sensitive in irritants and grain free I used to feed Innova but it has a brown rice. Surprised the vet didn't give you a list of advisable foods-honestly you might be better off asking here, at knowledgeable feed stores and reading the food sites themselves though... Quote:

| Unfortunately vets get little nutritional training in vet school. Although my vet is very knowledgeavle about Yorkies (she owns one), I know more about nutrition and we have many conversations about dog foods, pros and cons. |

| If food allergies persist you may need to consider a RAW diet, as well as rotating ingredients to ensure exposures to certain foods to figure the allergy out-like we do with skin kids starting them on one type of food for at least 5 days to ensure no allergic reaction-talk to your vet about it first though. RAW change over entails a transition. Honestly using an "irritant free" food is probably going to solve the problem-Eukanuba isn't a "junk" food it's just not as great as it is often made out to be-a lot of kennels, vets etc recommend it-but I think it has to do more so with it being "BIG" in name, advertised to vets etc more, and more widely available. I'm lucky to have a vet that knows just about every food on the market....and takes the time to read more than brochures sent to her practice by food companies. Chatties Mom-I just refreshed and saw your post-I agree! Very important point to make...

| For our family - TOTW is the best choice. You will find your own "best choice" by trial and error. I hope that the TOTW works for you 'cause it's a great product. |

| Leyla is on Flint River Ranch and her coat is looking really good, she's full of energy and loves it. This was recommended to us by two different breeder/showers. They are online only as far as I know but they deliver really fast. She eats the puppy / adult kibble Flint River Ranch Last edited by LeylasMom; 03-20-2011 at 07:42 AM. |
