I know the breeding threads tend to get heated around here and IMO they should. Who waits until the ACTUAL due date to begin doing any kind of learning? I am sorry, you are responsible for your dog. Period end of story. Whether you meant for the pregnancy to happen or not, the very SECOND you found out your girl was preggers you should have been talking to a vet experienced with pregnancy, scouring books/information, finding a mentor, etc. If you don't know what you are doing with this sort of thing, you IMMEDIATELY begin educating yourself and getting help. It is common sense, you are responsible for the safety of those little lives! You shouldn't be here the day of asking what you are supposed to be doing. You should know the signs of labor, the supplies you need, what you should be feeding mom, etc. These things are NOT hard to find if you look. Heck, I have no intention of breeding or interest in it, but even I know these things from just reading! If I was in such a situation, you can bet your bum I would have found it as soon as possible. It isn't like your dog hasn't been preggers for WEEKS, you had plenty of time to prepare yourself. If you didn't then you deserve all the criticism you get and then some. You are irresponsible and endangering the lives of your pups. |
Oh pick me...:D...because larger dogs don't have predominant health issues like smaller ones and if you study the real history of Yorkies the "standard" now is kind of a joke considering the first recorded Yorkies-they were all teapots...okay...sorry I couldn't help it............see how easy passions run high and things get totally off the topic...(....pssttttt I too believe Partis (tri colored or the appearance of white) a natural form of Yorkies historically speaking too and geez please no one change this thread in that direction I'm just sayin' a comment like that can cause a whole thread to get all bittered and off the point that quickly...) I get all cheesed off with this site being treated like YTCA Talk and not Yorkie Talk :p...okay I'll shush myself now....;)...promise (where's the smiley with hands over mouth or a zipper mouth-?) But the reality of it is there is a vast amount of knowledge, sharing , and generally really fun stuff on here that...you just have to realize at some point you will tick off ppl or they will tick you off too...I apologize in advance to the next person for the next thing I do to tick them off...:) Quote:

Let's face it the vast majority of threads you are describing deal with breeding or health issues. When it comes to health issues, sometimes people need to be blunt and direct. People should not rely on a public forum instead of going to their vet for health issues. I realize sometimes people can't afford vet care, but sometimes people do not take issues seriously or try and hold back on the expense and this is when emotions start to rise. As far as breeding. This is a site dedicated to a breed we all love. So I seriously doubt it will ever change. When people come on here that are participating in questionable breeding, buying from questionable breeders or supporting them, that is always going to cause a lot of emotions. As someone else pointed out. There are plenty of other sites and methods to learn about breeding, health issues, etc.. Anytime you come on a public forum you have to expect a broad spectrum of opinions and emotions. People are not going to condone situations that jeopardize the health and well being of Yorkies. |
I agree.. I don't think standards are a joke.. but they have changed over time so why do some of the breeders fight all change.. idk Maybe I will understand when and IF I become a breeder. Quote:

I was thinking that just after I made my last post... I have wondered into the breeder area and I just get so lost.. I do think the passions are higher ..but they should be if it is a good breader!!!! Quote:
Again... I love this site... it has made me a better dog mommy!!!!!! And I thank all of you who have given me advice... I do think we all are abrupt at times.. but such is life. If a member leaves because their hand is not patted and someone tells them it is ok you did not take your dog to a vet, or you 6 month old is having a litter, or...... then they really did not want advice they wanted confermation that they did not do wrong!! |
Another thing that burns me is when someone has a cutesy approach to breeding. The one the other day where the person refered to their dog as preggo. Breeding is serious business they are putting a dogs life in danger and they are bringing more dogs in the world when the shelters are overflowing with dogs. |

I think that is one of the things I have learned.. I used to think it was be "fun or interesting" to have a litter. But thankfully I am the type of person who researches before I do. You are so right... it is a dog's life we are talking about!!! |

I agree with this. I cannot COUNT the number of times that I have heard or read" I would NEVER want a dog THAT small" (said looking down nose)! What if I were to say to a teapot owner " oh I HATE big Yorkies No way would I ever want to own one of THOSE ~ they are WAAAAYYY to BIG" People just have double standards. I understand why the stand is made in certain situations but ALL of us with tinys don't deserve to be be told that our dogs are less than because they are small IMHO |
Actually, we (teapot/the whole dang bakery owners) hear that quite a bit. Most often accompanied by a sneer and the statement that we must not own PURE BRED yorkies because of their size. |
My thoughts While I can see where the OP is coming from, I too am a "newbie" and I have seen some posts here that have been pretty harsh HOWEVER I have also seen some posts here that scare me to death and I sit most of my nights reading through the threads and my Charlie lays next to me and sometimes I grab on to him and hold him so tight because I cant imagine him being in the situations I am reading about. So I think that the members that post so verbally may be reacting because it can feel so close to home, when you hear these things you immediately think of your own baby and yes its true sometimes the things being said are things that the poster needs to hear. I also have to believe that those with the strong advise have more experience in recognising a situation that warrants it. We are all here to help and be helped our babies are the most important thing its important that we look out for them and others. |
