| problems with potty training I am getting really frustrated with Miss Bella. She is 8 months old and I am a stay at home mom. She never poopies in the house but pee yes. It seems like she is playing and just forgets and pees on the fly. I praise her and treat her ever time she goes outside. She will go to the door and do her dance but sometimes it's like she is playing and just goes. I remember when my son was young I would watch him from the window playing and he would be doing the pee dance and I would say to him, come inside and go potty and he would always say, no Mom I don't have to, and then you all know what would happen. I think maybe that is what is going on with Bella. She is having so much fun she can't be bothered to take the time. I have noticed lately also that if I scold her for something else, like chewing on the leg of the sofa, another bad habit, she will just go and pee. I think it could be defiance especially if all the attention is not on her. I really need help. She makes mistakes every day almost, yet she will go to bed at 9 and sleep until 7. She has done that since she was 12 weeks old. I know she knows that she has to go outside, I think she just chooses not to. What can I do? She doesn't have a UTI. We are in Florida now and she drinks about 1cup and a half a water a day, but it is warm here now. It also depends on how active she is. If we take her out with us to dinner or to a friends house, she is fine. When she pees on the floor, I scold her, then take her outside. If she goes I praise, bring her back in, give her a treat. I have started to put her in her kennel after that, so I can clean her mess up, because she thinks it is a game and tries to take the paper towels. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions. I thought by now she would be better than this, especially with all the time I spend with her. I love her so much and she is so good other than the potty training. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/ima...ser_online.gif http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/ima...ons/report.gif |

| Hi I have a Bella as well I have a 2 1/2 yr old Bella and a 5 1/2 month old pup Harley....my 2 yr old is fully house trained...my 5 mo old is coming along very nicely...he is already sleeping with DH and I with no accidents at all but he is still not fully house trained to have full run of the house...I don't trust him enough for that yet but he is getting there First what you need to do it confine her, don't let her have full run of the house anymore...you are starting from the beginning again with potty training..buy a x pen or play yard...I like the play yards I have 2 LOL...second I would get a good odor cleaner like Natures Miracle...you can get in pet smart, clean all the areas that she has pottied in with water and vinger let it dry and spray the natures miracle on it to remover the odor...you may not be able to smell it anymore after cleaning but she can and will use that spot again if you don't use the natures miracle. you are going to have to start from the beginning with her and thats means keeping her confined when you can not watch her at all time...I would start off taking her out every 2 hours and after eating/drinking and any kind of play...when taking her out look at her and say gotta potty and go outside...keep saying go potty for pee until she does...when she does throw a potty party give her, her favorite treat and tell her what a good girl she is and if its time for her to poop as well tell her to hurry up....I do "go potty for pee" and "hurry up for poop"..I know she won't do both everytime but you should have an ideal of when its time for a poop...if she potties outside when you go back in let her stay out of the play yard for a bit with you having an eagles eye on her at all times...again don't let her have full run of the house...if you can't watch her put her in her confined area...if you catch her in the act correct her with a firm no, that should get her attention enough to make her stop peeing and take her right outside don't wait and say go potty good girl, letting her know its ok to potty outside..you have to be very consistent with them...set her up for success don't give her a chance to fail...and success starts with you and please know its going to take longer than a few months to train her, it might take 6 mos or even a year to get her fully house trained so please keep that in mind and be patient...if you are consistent with the training she will get it Here is the play yard that I have for my 5 month old pup..you have to order it online they are not in any stores that I know of I got mine off of Ebay xpens/play yards for pets/dogs....they are big enough for food/water/bed/toys. I would NOT put any potty pads down in her confined area at all that will just confuss her by saying its ok to potty in the house...she is 8 mos old still very much a puppy...she can probably hold her potty for like 3 to 4 hours...but I would start off with going outside every 2 hours for a week or so and than move up to 3 to 4. I love the plays yards cause they have a floor in them just in case they do have accidents and a mesh top that can be zipped up if you have a climber good luck...hope this helps

| I forgot to to tell you...if she doesn't potty when you take her out...put her in her confined area wait 15 to 30 minutes and try again until she does. don't just assume she doesn't have to go if she doesn't and let her have run of the house or even let her stay out with you watching her, cause as sure as I'm sitting here....the minute you go back in if you don't put her up in her confined area...she will go and potty somewhere in the house....and remember just like us...she will need to be taken out first thing in the mornings...after eating/drinking, after any type of play, and right before bed.
