| Q about coat please So as Bella's coat continues to change the silver looking color is starting to come in thicker starting from where her spine is, and down. It's like a silver stripe going down her back. I can definately tell it's growing more downward though. As at first it was barely peeking through her solid black puppy coat. Now, her puppy coat feels like to me, what you guys would describe as a cotton coat. Her new adult hair (I'm assuming) is very thin and slick feeling it seems. It is VERY smooth and straight! Is that what is called a silky coat? I know it's hard to tell via internet and I'm sure you have all been asked this a million or two times, so sorry for any inconvenience or for sounding like a broken record. Thank you. |

| It sounds like you are getting a silky adult coat!!! Yay!! It's so much fun to see how their coats change as they grow. Can you post a picture? Be careful of mats in their hair at this time. The textures of the puppy coat and the silkly coat growing through it can cause mats - especially under & around the elbows. You may have to comb your Yorkie puppy out every day or every other day for awhile to prevent matting. I always recommend a metal comb for this - it really seems to help. I use a 5" metal comb similar to the picture I attached. You could post this in the grooming section also if you want more people to reply. Teresa Last edited by Teresamag; 02-21-2011 at 09:52 PM. |

| Oh I would love for her to have a silky coat. If not, I'm obviously okay with that too. I love her unconditionally! Good to know about the metal comb. I comb her now with a five inch plastic comb twice a day (maybe more if I'm not busy)! My husband teases me that I take better care of the dog than myself! Isn't that what a good mother does?! lol I will see if my camera is charged and try to take some pics of what I'm talking about. Thank you.

| Ziva has a very fine, thin silky coat- now that she is almost 2! We did have a lot of matts during the transition, I wasn't sure about her coat then so I cut her very short, I would just cut any knots out. The metal comb seems to cause less static and gives a smoother finish. I never use a brush... |

| Yes, I comb several matts out of her hair daily! Poor baby I try to hold the matt at the base so it is less painful. She never complains though. But I know how bad it hurts if we have a knot!

| Coat question too I am new here and just got my girl Daisy 2 weeks ago. She is 2 1/2 and had a litter 5-7 months ago. First off, I love her and she is just wonderful. The owner said that she had Daisy completely shaved because the puppies tore up her coat. Her fur is growing however the color looks like a pup, black/tan with silver just coming in on the lower flanks. Is this because she was shaved or is it going to be her normal color? Also, her fur is dull. Not dry just flat, with no natural shine at all. Is this possibly a diet issue? Thanks and nice to be here. |
