Blue baby born...have questions!!

Do you know who purchased the babies? Contact them and let them know that the "blue" gene runs in the lines and they shouldn't be bred.

I don't know a whole lot about the blue born yorkie's other than what I've researched and I've known several people who've owned blue yorkies. But here's a link that may help explain the gene involved in the blue born yorkie.

It says the blue borns have 2 copies of the recessive dilute gene which means that both parents are Dd and the pup got a copy of the recessive "d" from each parent - making the pup dd.

There are tests available for the D/d gene. The company I've used in the past for coat color testing is Animal genetics (Animal Genetics) and you would want to test for the D locus. Good luck.

There is only one baby....and we bred our male soley for the purpose of adding a new member to the family. My daughter who is a sophmore in high school has been asking for a yorkie of her own for a long while. So, in answer to your questions, he is not being sold, but will be brought up and loved by my family. (We only have the one other male) it was never our intension to use either dog for breeding, just as our babies.

They weren't referring to the pup in this current breeding, the blue born one that you are keeping.

As stated previously, in order for this pup to be blue born, it had to get the gene from both parents, so both your male and this female should be spayed/neutered and not used again for breeding so as not to pass along this gene again.

You also said that your male had been used in a previous breeding. Since your male is now known to be a carrier, the pups in the FIRST breeding will have a 50% chance of inheriting the bad gene from him, so they should not be used for breeding, either. Whoever ended up with those pups needs to know so that they do not breed them and risk passing on this gene.

Ok! gotcha!! I know where both pups are, and the female is already spayed...the male is just a family pet but I will let them know! And we wont be breeeding mine again!! Makes me wonder how many dogs carry this gene and no one ever knows!!
