| Well, from what I've read, it's not a good thing! He may have serious hair and skin issues and this is why I am so worried! It's a genetic thing... We have let our male breed once before and the result was two perfect babies. (we did not keep them..again the female wasn't ours) we just let a friend use our yorkie as a stud. This was a different female so I don't know if she has the "gene" or what...just frustrated! I just want him to be ok! |

| I really hope this lil guy is just unique in color and is healthy keep everyone posted please! YorkieRose said some very informative things on the linked thread listed above. I've only seen the whole chocs, blues, goldens online and never really read about then before... In another thread with Parti breeders I was asking about 'other colors" commenting I know goldens are like partis...why is it bad if someone breeds all 'other colors' I received a pm explaining blues are often sickly and thus it is irresponsible because of the possible quality of life of the pup...color is color but the risk of creating an unhealthy pup just to get a rare color seems irresponsible... I know this wasn't the case in this situation...but this is why (IMO) breeding should be left to experts...because they do health screening/testing, health certifications(OFA etc), search the line they are breeding, research genetics, make sure they have a breeding quality dog after the dog matures into a dog etc...those whom practice responsible breeding caring foremost about the health and temperament of the pups they produce and the care they give their breeding stock...for their entire lives. |

| I'm worried because "all" yorkies are born black and later change colors. This baby was born "blue"....which apparently is a genetic defect and is known to lead to serious skin issues and hair loss. I've done alot of research in the past 24 hours and have found both good and bad news. Would just love to hear from someone else who might have had a blue pup to see what their experiences were.... Oh and p.s., I think we might name him "papa smurf"! |

| No Longer a Member | I recommend that you neuter your male, it's entirely possible that it was him that threw the blue-born gene. Of course the owners of the dam should spay her, as it could have been her as well. I don't know anything about caring for/raising the blue borns, but I wish you luck. Maybe try to find a skin specialist and have a consult with them when your pup is old enough. Maybe they'll have some recommendations to prevent or lessen the severity of the skin issues. |

| Is there a test that can prove if one of them carries the gene? He does state that he has bred his male before with no outcome of a "blue born" |

| No Longer a Member | Right but a "parti-carrier" can throw standard pups one litter, and then parti pups with another. If a blue pup is born, I think both parents should be retired from breeding. Just my opinion. |

| I'm confused from what I'm reading here and reading online etc....blue, gold etc are color mutations, but Gold is also referred to as recessive and classed the same as the Parti gene. The Parti gene is a recessive gene that takes both parents either being Parti or Parti carriers...any breeders know the genetics on this to show an example/comparison? |
