| high anxiety our Hamish was a year old in Nov and since then, he has had repeated episodes of anxiety at bed time. He is unable to rest and runs around the house - gulping for air. Its the most stressful experience. We've had him to the vet for extensived bloodwork - all negative. The vet said it might be diet related given that he usually eats again @ 10pm. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Last edited by lbjhm; 02-23-2011 at 06:32 AM. |

| Welcome to YT. Do you try to play with him before bedtime to wear him out some? It might help. |

| I'm sorry your poor little guy is so anxious. Why is he eating so late at 10pm? Where does he sleep?

| Welcome to YT! I wouldn't worry, mine does that too right before bed time haha....its almost like he knows and get this second burst of energy and starts running around so fast that he has to take a second to breathe in some more air and will cough. Hehe I just tell him to drink his water and he'll run around a few more times then calm down. Might just be a puppy thing!

| What are you feeding him? If it could be diet related...you might make sure you're feeding him premium dog food. And I definitely wouldn't be feeding him at 10 pm.... My girls always need to go potty within an hour after eating....if you're feeding him so late....he may have to go potty even later.... Try feeding him several hours earlier.....then take him potty just before bed..

| Have you tried a DAP diffuser? I've found them very good for anxiety in pups...If you buy them from the vet, they're about $40, but I buy mine from Entirely Pets and only pay 22.00, but I noticed today, they were less, but you have to pay shipping...Here's the link http://www.entirelypets.com/dapdogappher.html They last about a month, then you have to replace the cartridge...One covers 500-700 square feet...My house is about 1500 square feet, so I have one in the front of the house (living room) and one in the back bedroom, and it seems to cover te whole house...My pups always get the "zoomies" right before they're going to crash at night...It used to make me crazy w/all the running around, chasing, barking and carrying on...Now I realize they're getting ready to go to sleep...Darndest thing I've ever seen, but then they are yorkies lol... |
