| Transitioning from pee pads to outside, help! Hi! I have a little 5 month old Yorkie that we are trying to potty train outside. We got her in December and because it was so cold here and she didn't have all her vaccines we trained her on a pee pad. Currently, she is about 98% trained, except for the sporadic accident. Now she's vaccinated, the snow is gone, and it is warming up so we want to train her to go potty outside. We started taking her out yesterday but have had ZERO success. She loves outside but is more concerned with checking everything out than going potty. We've taken her out at times we know she regularly goes, like after eating and when we take her out of her x-pen. We've also brought her pad outside to help her and given her time to just sniff around, but she holds it until we get back inside to go on her pad. Any tips to help make this transition successful? Also, we are going to visit friends this weekend who have two dogs. Do you think it would be a good idea to take her out when they go so she can see what older dogs do outside? Thanks!! |

Now that the weather is warmer I am starting to take her outside again. I have to get her out the very first thing in the morning. We have two older, larger dogs and she does know where the "spot" is to go outside. I, personally will not be taking up the pee pads until she "lets me know" she has to go out. Don't know if that will ever happen. I do think that it will help if she sees the other dogs do their business outside. Good Luck, let me know how it goes!!! | |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | hiya , poppy was trained to go on pads , then we wanted her to go outside , everytime she looked like she was going to the pad to do something , the pad was in front of the back door , we would just open the door and say , go and do a wee wee , every time she did it outside we praised her loads , eventually she got the hang of it , now if we go out and we are going to be gone for a few hours we put a pad down for her but she will not do anything on it she waits until we are back and goes in the back garden love jill n poppy xx |

| I was wondering the same thing! Got Jed 2 weeks ago and he has been using the pads. It's been cold, snowy, rainy here. Also he didn't have ANY of his shots! He is due for his 2nd shot, not this monday but next monday and I am wanting to start him on going outside. Hope someone posts some helpful hints for you so I can glean from them! |
