Your Yorkie's Name!
 

Since I am very new here I've decided to ask a question that hopefully everyone can answer!

The topic - your pets name. Do you have a story behind it? Does it match with your dogs personality/appearance? What was going through your mind when you decided to name your love THAT name?

I'll give my answer... My Yorkie was born on 6/6/06. To top it all off I brought him home on Friday the 13th in October, so he was like my little devil. But that name didn't fit him. So I named him Jack, like a jack-o-lantern :)

What about you?

My sister named Boomer. Muffin was originally going to be Lacey, but she never responded to it. I'd call her lil muffin just in a cutesy way. I noticed that whenever I did her ears perked up. :p So...she chose her own name...Muffin :)

Bitsy was suppose to be Misty, but it just didn't seem to fit once she came home. I called her Little Bit and Bitsy came from that. Now I call her Bitsy Girl. :)

WOW, I am glad you didn't name him Freddie or Kruger or Damian...LOL

My momma girl is named Elsa...like the lion on "Born Free" I just like the name.
My little baby is named Tia...again, just liked the name.

Ahhh that's so funny! I had a brief weird moment where I thought of Damian but it freaked me out to think about the reason why he'd be named that. That is too funny that you said that... LOL

Dispatcher and 2morkies - it's funny how you both had different names planned but neither of them ended up sticking! I'm sure it's strange to think of them with any other name than what they have now though. :)

I have 4 babies: 1 yorkie: Gypsy. I always wanted a long hair dog with that name. It fits her because she is the Queen.
2 long hair chihuahuas: Puff was named by hubby. She was a little ball of puff when he got her. Harley was called Edgar when we got him last month. The previous owners sd he never answered to it. He picked up on Harley real quick.
And there is our Pom, Seymour. One the way home from getting him from the breeder we bounced names back and forth. We got him in a neighboring county: Seymour county. So we decided it would be a good name.

We got Sylvester on New Years Eve.
Szilveszter means New Year Eve in Magyar ( Hungarian)

Yeah, the Misty name only lasted like 2 days...just didn't suit her at all. Glad I changed it.

My daughter named Nala from the Lion King. Very appropriate name, as she hides and then pounces on Bailey. We were having a little Bailey's in our coffee the evening we brought Bailey home, and it just seemed to fit.

I'm a horse person by trade originally, and well any of you that know horse show goers know that we like crazy names.... Fro a good laugh here are a few of my horse names and where those came from (I'll get to Harley in a second):
Texas Dream (or Nightmare) - his real name was Tex, we actually brought two signs to shows and joked about flipping to the nightmare side when he was bad
Russel's Surprise - Missy, ex race horse, we never named her
Smooth Movin' Alley Cat - Alley
Demeter - De, she's named after the Greek goddess of fertility (shame if I ever bred her I was going to name the baby Persephone

OK so when I told the breeder I was a horse person and that I wanted to show Harley in Agility, she (also being a past horse person) agreed that I could pick his registration name too. So Matt and I started brainstorming... He was either going to be Harley or Chloe (as a girl name). Matt whinned and complained and well we got a boy!

So I was/am going to do agility with him, so I decided I needed a great name, plus he's hyper as hell. So we got Kelland's Rev'd Up Harley out of that. All that work and I come to find out that at Agility shows you don't actually use the registered name, :( I would feel like a dummy having them say that on the speaker when all the other names are normal.

George comes from a Bugs Bunny cartoon, I always would say to my grandchildren when they were toddlers "I going to take you home and I'm going to love you and hug you and call you George ". Not sure if it was Bugs or Daffy that the abominable snowman had and this is what he said he was going to do .....so when I told my oldest granddaughter I was getting a puppy I asked what would be a good name ...and the answer naturally was George ....

Our 1st yorkie took me two days to name since I couldn't pick, finally ended with Sophie (I always liked the name) my daughter was 2 when we got her so she would call her Tophie and that got shortened to Tofu sometimes (the husband calls her Tofu)

When we got the first one my husband said we should have gotten a boy and named him Bowser since they are so small and Bowser(off of the video game) is a big guy. So when Sophie was 2 we got a boy and he was already Bowser when we got him.

Zoe is an old mutt we saved as a puppy many years ago, she came with the name. (she was our first dog and is 9)

Our Boxers name is Lily Miss Prime.... husband is a fan of transformers and so we kind of went with that. She goes by Lily or Lily Miss.

We spent hours on our daily walks tossing about names for the dog we were going to get once I was off school for the summer. I liked Q after the Star Trek character, and then I could call him Q-T. I also liked literary names like Little Darcy, Lizzie, Emma, Pip. I kept trying to think of a Shakespeare character name that would fit. I wanted something clever or sophisticated. Oh, I even looked up words from Yorkshire dialect. I think one was Spoggy-it means a sweet thing, I think.
Instead...
we ended up calling him a name that fits in with family tradition. DH's family likes toy poodles and gives them names that end in a kee sound: Ricki, Jacqui. When we got the dog, my husband started calling him Dinky, almost immediately, and then I did too.
Now, I love his silly name. It's just who he is. Sometimes we sing to him to the tune of "Maria" from West Side Story: Din-kee! I just met a dog named Dinky, and everytime I walk, he likes to me talk and say- Dinkee,eee,ee, ee ....Oh dinky, dinky, dinky, DINKEEEEE!" Yes, we sing this outside on our walk, in public!

we got porscha on Nov 16 09 she was born Aug. 16 09 had a vet appointment the next day she didn't have a name i wanted to call her
Patti ( always wanted a lil girl with that name ) but she just would not
respond to Patti even the vet said i needed to change it she was called every name we could think of no respond to any of them on her second trip to the vet still no name vet wanted to know if she could hear told his yes so he check her hearing she just would not respond to any name
third trip back to the vet still no name vet said you have got to get this lil one a name i knew i wanted it to start with a P so he said go home and sit at the pc and type in names that start with the P so that night we sit here at the pc and we went down the list nothing took a break from trying
so hubby and i got down in the floor with her and would call again ever name we could think of with a P hubby started calling her pineapple
told him no way so back to the pc we come went down the list some more and when we cot to Porscha she perked up told hubby to call out Porscha and he started calling here Porscha here Porscha boy she wanted down and went to her daddy with that lil tail just a waging so she picked her own name but everyone said she did a good job because she was so
EXPENSIVE who said money can'y buy LOVE

Beamer was named by the breeder's son - He owned a BMW. I always wanted a Beamer, so now I have one:D

When my husband brought Lil Bit home we didn't have a name for her. For several days she was just "puppy" or "sweetie" I was trying to decide what name suited her. Finally decided her name was Bonnie Blue, then I said she was just a Lil Bit for such a big name - and Lil Bit ended up being what we called her.

I already had Bella's name picked out before I got her...so when she came home she already knew her name...and it fits her perfectly, she isn't a girly girl she is all tomboy..lol..I went with Bella cause my First yorkies name was Bailey RIP and I wanted both my pups names to start with a B...Than I got Harley he is only 18 weeks...Hubby wanted a manly name for his boy since all we ever had was girls...and he picked Harley cause we
have a Harley Davidson :D

My husband and kids are very active in our local snowmobile club, actually my hubby is the president..anyways, he takes the kids out grooming trails alot and one of the brand names of one of the groomers is called a Tucker.. when our pup was born, also to another active family in the snowclub he looked just like a Tucker so he was named at a day old. The name fixs him perfect, he loves snow and is always plowing it with his nose..lol...:)

I got Rosie when she was almost 6 months old. So she already had a name. I added her middle name. She is now officially Rosie Marie. It just seemed to fit her. :)

Winston (schnauzer)- he was already named. I loved his name, very smart :D.
Remy(yorkie)- we wanted something that kind of went with Winston. My husband said Remington. I said no and we got "Remy". It fits him well.
Holly(boxer)- we wanted a name for Christmas since we got her in December. She loves her name :)

Well when we went to meet these 2 puppies and figure out which one would be right for us Silver was the more outgoing, loving, playful one. So we ended up falling in love with her. So we brought her home and was thinking of names. She had a little silver on her toes so we ended up naming her Silver. As soon as we called her she looked up and we knew it fit her.

Peyton already had a name when i got her, she was 2 years old so i couldnt change it. i wouldnt of picked it myself but it has grown on me and i call her Little Miss Princess Peyton :)

I wanted the name Toby but my kids didn't like it. So they chose the name Sammy after Sammy Sosa (which doesn't make sense to me because we are Yankees fans!).

My yorkie Zoe was named by my daughter and her boyfriend when my daughter rescued her. He's Greek so they wanted a greek name...it was either going to be Sophie or Zoe and my daughter wanted to save Sophia in case she needed it for a human girl someday. So Zoe it is (I think it means "hope".)
It was fun to see that we have so many names in common here...I've always wanted a "Harley", helped a friend name their golden "Tucker", our first dog as a married couple was an American Eskimo named "Jack" (we loved him so!), I just wrote about the "Sophie" possibility, and my daughter goes to U. of Oklahoma and wants a "Boomer" someday!

My other three dogs are:
Emma Grace--blenheim cavalier, named by my daughter because she'd just seen Rachel on Friends name her baby Emma Grace!
Cooper--Named by my daughter because she loves Mini Coopers (which is his official name)
Cindy Lou--Named by both kids because we got her when the movie The Grinch came out.

We also have tons of nicknames for all of them. Do you all do that, too?

Sophie Kates name was partially inherited and partially given to her by me.

When I got her she already had the name Sophie, which she knew - the first night I got her my friend Katie came over and Sophie Kate decided Katie was her BFF and curled up on her lap and took a nap so I gave her the name Kate because that was the moment I fell in love with her so now we have Sophie Kate.

Marley...because I liked the name. :D

My previous Yorkie that I loved dearly and had for almost 18 yrs was named Gretchen. After I lost her I wanted the next ones name to sound like they go together. I decided Gretchen & Heidi sounded just right. When I brought the new pup, Heidi home it fits her perfectly & she answered to it right away. She just turned 2 and she is definitely a Heidi! My dad often calls her PeeWee though and she always acts so excited about it.

I always wanted to name my dog Levis (after the jeans) but my boyfriend wasn't crazy about the name so he suggested Bailey because I like coffee and Baileys. Little did I know that Bailey is one of the most common names for dogs! When I rescued some kittens this past fall and took them to the SPCA, I got to name one of them Levis.

We had a beautiful part-siamese cat (a Hemmingway) that we named Damian, because when he was a kitten he was SO crazy we thought he was possessed! DH said that the only behavior he hadn't shown yet was the the spinning head and pea soup! We had him 14 years and just lost him in Oct. of '09.

When we picked out our puppy I wanted to call him Boomer, but DH was such a Matrix fan we agreed to call him Neo instead. I named our next boy Connor (after the Highlander).

Lilianna was name by my mom. She was dying when we got Lily and I would take her every day to see mom. She would lay next to her for hours and never move. On the first day mom wasn't talking and just sleeping and my brother said "What are you going to call her." My mom woke up for a minute and said Lily. So that is where she got her name from.

Beans = He came to us with this name and we kept it because Mr. Beans is our little mobster. LOL.

Tia - was called Zelda when we got her and IDK she was so tiny we wanted to give her a short tiny name so Tia was it.

Noel - Came at Christmas.

Brooklyn (AKA) The Midget = My husband was a Brooklyn cop and he wanted to name her so he named her Brooklyn after the place he worked out of. We also call her Midget because she's so tiny.

Mia - (AKA) Mi Mi - I don't know it was just another Italian name we thought of since we are Italian. And it seemed to fit her.
