How long did it take your 1st Yorkie to accept your 2nd?? Any tips??

Vivian, we have a couple of young pups in our neighborhood who like to jump on Maximo's head and he hates it. Normally he is such a gentleman around other dogs, but when this happens, he growls at them. Definitely work on getting Reesie to stop that and it will pave the way for Snickers to get closer, check out Reesie more and accept him.

Kristin I KNOW!!!! I think that's where the puppy classes will help. Reesie knows when my DH and I move out heads away we don't always want him in our face (I LOVE IT and generally so does my babe) and he will stop, but he just wants to kiss Snick. Reesie is SUCH A LOVER, he wants to kiss everyone and everything. Little baby!!!!

When I put Reesie on a leash and have him approach Snick, Reesie starts barking and yelling at me b/c I won't allow him to jump in Snick's face. Lol....it's gonna take time....and the wait STINKS!!!!!!! I'm gonna try boiled chicken tonight...a trea which has not made an appearance in awhile. Cross your paws for me....

Well, Viv, as you know, it took Apple a few months to accept Buzz...She put up w/him, but didn't particularly like him...They still don't cuddle, but Apple is a cold fish lol...However, she loves Buzz now, and thinks I got him JUST for her to boss around (and she does!)...I read, somewhere, that taking them to the groomer, together, bonds them...They're both a little apprehensive, and look to each other for comfort...Maybe, when it's time for Reesie to be groomed, that will be the magic bullet! Hang in there, it'll happen!

What to do when it is the new puppy that is growling and snarling at the other two adult dogs? New puppy does this more when she is with me on the couch.... She turns into a totally different puppy. it has been 11 days though. She now is starting to settle down. However, she was showing these behaviors more towards Suzi, our yorkie , then our shih tzu. our adult dogs chose to ignore the pup, or stay out of her way. The pup is around 5-6 months. All females .

It sounds a little bit to me like she's being possessive of you. I know there are other threads on YT about possessiveness. Maybe you can try doing a search for aggression or possessive? However, I'm no expert and I'm not really sure. Maybe someone else has more specific input

Maggie...I'm thinking Reesie might not be a cuddler either, he is more of an on the go type of boy. He cuddles with me from time to time if he is really tired, otherwise not so much. I'm pretty much thinking that I REALLY need to train him to STOP jumping in Snick's face and when he does, let Snick correct him in the way he prefers as long as it doesn't get out of hand. This morning Snick was just staring at me while I did my hair from our bed and I swear his marble black gorgeous eyes said "I miss you Mommy...."

Yeah, Viv, I definitely think you need to let Snick work it out w/Reesie, and not intervene, unless when Reesie backs down, Snick keeps on w/his correction...Snick probably needs to exhibit his alpha spot, and Reesie just needs to deal w/it...It's hard not to intervene, but I think most will agree that it's the best thing for the pups...There's always a pecking order, and the pups decide in what order this will be...

Yes!! For sure, we have been doing this until Reesie seems to corner Snick and then we intervene after about 5min, and try to remove him on a positive moment, but we always use high pitched happy voices, in the beginning we were intervening and I know that DEF did NOT help the situation. So much to learn!! I'm making this weekend be a good one, we are going to make progress, and things will be fine soon. I PRAY!!!!!!!
