pointy nose??
 
can someone tell me why some yorkies have a pointy nose (like mine). My buddy whos dog is also AKC has more of a smushed nose and a rounded face rather than a pointy nose and a long face? why is that?

Genetics, breeding. Different lines of Yorkies have different looks.

My Bailey has a little pointed muzzle, my Jesse's is more short and flat, I think they are both adorable :)

I read somewhere the reason the faces and tails are gold is so the miners could tell they were not rats in the mines. With the bodies being dark they could not see them in the mines, and I guess they may have looked like the rats they were breed to hunt?
So the pointy noses helped them get the rats ueeewwwww

I love the pointie noises and the not so pointed of my shih tuz also.

I have never once thought that my babies could possibly be mistaken for a rat! Except at bathtime. LOL :D:D:p That's interesting though.

Aren't the longer ones for helping to groom the face - kind of like a handle. Darwin's nose is longer then Mabel's and it's soooo much easier!:D

My babie is tooooo sweet to be a rat or a rat killer, but she sure likes it when I hide her toy and she has to dig under a pillow to find them. She also likes squeekie toys ...... hmmmmm

The face is one area that the breeder has some leeway with. The standard says:

So how do you define "not too long." Most good breeders believe that structure is so much more important than facial beauty as it impacts health. The yorkie should not have any type of "smushed" face though, and I hope breeders avoid this look because it has been known to cause breathing problems in other breeds, not saying it isn't adorable, but health should always be the first consideration, in my opinion.

Tabby's is pointy. Does make for a good handhold for grooming :D

What does "small ears" mean? I think Tab's are HUGE. And they're adorable.

As pet owners we don't really need to be concerned with standard, although I think it's important for puppy buyers to support those breeders who follow standard. I mean we can have a pet who's ears are little large or whose nose is a little long, but it still resembles a Yorkie, however if breeders breed whatever the want, the dogs eventually will not even retain the yorkie look. No dog is 100 percent perfect, unless they are a pet! :p

Skeeter has kind of a smooshed up face. I think it makes him look like a perpetual puppy!:2hearts2:

I think the pointy nose is what people mean when they refer to the "fox face" and the shorter snout means the "teddy bear face" - whatever both are cute, and though I do think my shorter muzzled Yorkie (Carly) does have the perpetual puppy look I actually prefer the longer muzzle (fox face) of my other Yorkie, Gracie. I've yet to figured out what the "babydoll face" is suppose to look about that I often see advertised. Seems to me the breeder I got Gracie from had mentioned a "baby doll face", but I would think that would be more of the short muzzle (which Gracie has the long or regular muzzle).
So if short is teddy bear and long is fox, what exactly is the babydoll face? Somewhere in between??? Yeah, yeah, I know not "correct" descriptions but those terms are used and I'd like to know what the look is that goes with each one.

MY Zada and Azrael both have the teddy bear face, and Razael has the "normal" show quality look to her face. I don't know why they are different, but I suppose with each and every breed, they also have some differences. ;)

I think I have one of each type of face. lol Nikki has the long pointy face and big ears, Pixie has the "baby doll face" Roxie has what I call the typical yorkie face and Cali has a more teddy bear face. I love them all.

Nikki is 16?? Wow! Tab has a face like that. (Nikki is the one to the far left, right?) She's on the smaller side (4.8 lbs) and kinda, to me, has a bit longer body and legs than I think is "normal." Although a. she might beef up some more, she's only 7 months, and the fur hides a lot.

Lol, Jackson has a long nose, too. Everyone tells me he is a Silky, but who knows. He definitely looks like a Silky to me.

Yes he's the one on the left. He also has long legs and body. He weighs 5.2 but due to his age he is on the skinny side.
Nikki looks like a silky but has the really silky long coat of a yorkie.

Josie has the long nose or the fox look and she tries to be sly like a fox and Jack has the teddy bear nose and he is as cuddley as a teddy bear.

I'm not sure what type of nose Rio and Bullet have. I kind of think their hairstyles sort of "mask" whatever type of nose they have. Anyway, I don't care what kind of nose they have, like you all say, our furbabies are perfect in our eyes! :love:
