A yorkie landed on me today.... my brothre cals me and tells me he has a surprise. I have no clue as to what he is talking about. three monutes later my brother makes me close my eyes. I was laying on the couch, and at first did not see her. Both my other two were already checking her out. I could not beleive he found a yorkie pup runnin in the street. She was a little damp from the fog. But not too wet. I don't think she has been out too long. SHe has a puppy coat with a little silver on her head. I tried to give her food, but she did not want it yet. She has smelled the food but not touched it . She is a little doll baby, Wants to be with my son and i. She is not thin and it does look like someone was taking care of her. I live in a tiny town, and I ought to place posters up of found puppy. She is very mellow right now. Probably cause she is overwhemled. I know i need to take her to the vet asap. I can on the third , that is the closest appointment i can do and afford financially. She has all her teeth, and I have no idea how old she is. AND I am eorried if she is sick or anything my other girls could get it too. All she wants is love right now. Keeps wanting to be on my son's lap, and has come up to me for attention. |
I am glad your son found her. I would contact the local vets and shelter's to find the original owner's. You could just take her in and have her scanned to see if she has a microchip with the original owner's info on it. They are surely frantic looking for her. You may not need to take her to the vet on the 3rd if you have found the owners. Please put up posters. Just think how upset you would be if one of your sweet yorkie's were missing. Thanks for looking out for her and you will be a hero if you find the original owner! |
I gave her water, and she was so very thirsty.. I also found out some heavily matted areas in her hair. If her owners are looking for her , they were not taking all that good care of her. SHe is dirty, matted , and who knows how long this baby has been out by herself. I know i still have to place posters of found dog, but i am not going to give details . If she is lost and someone is looking for her I want the rightful owner to get her back. |
Matting happens quickly. Please put those posters up ASAP. A vet will scan for a chip for FREE;) |
I am 50% thinking the poor "mommy" (owner) must be out of her head with worry.... and then 50% why they are not posting posters and looking their selves!! |
Don't wait til February third. Take her to the Vet ASAP. They can quickly scan her to see if there is a microchip. I would be so upset if my puppy went missing and the person that had her kept her for almost a month before taking her to get scanned. Would you want that to happen too you? Also, matting happens quickly...almost overnight especially when wet or damp. Please don't wait to decide if you think the owners are taking proper care of the pup.... they are probably worried sick. |

My very dear friend, has a tiny Maltese that was lost in Michigan-we feel certain someone has picked her up. She has flyer's up everywhere, notified all of the Vets, Shelters, Rescues, Animal Control, has an amber alert out on her, and no one has come forward, and she is in agony, wanting to die, because her baby is missing. There are several threads about "Rikki" in YT. She was spotted 3 times the day after she went missing; two Pastors of two different church's saw her and did nothing to help her. We have a candle site, and we light candles and pray that she is returned. Someone's heart is breaking right now. Sheila |
She was running in the street , that is how she was found. yes, I will do everything possible to find the owners of this baby. All I know s that she is in need of great care. The matting is thick , so thick that it is hard to even distingush her tail. it is hard to understand how a puppy got away from it's family , but it happens. She nearky got hit by a car . But, I do agree with the majority of posters. Dhe is safe, and warm in a quiet doggie bed. LIke I said before I will do my best to find her owners. I will go door to door to find her owners on thr street where she eas found. It is such a small town that you can walk a mile and be on the otherside of the city. |

You can take her down to the animal shelter and have her scanned for free, and while there, find out if anyone called about her. I'm sure that would be the first place an owner would call. |
A vet will scan her for free now, no need to wait until next month. In a small town, with a little bit of effort it won't be that difficult to find the owner. Kudos to you for seeing to her welfare while you try to reunite her with her family. |
As careful as we are with our babies and we never leave them alone even in our fenced in yard, our Brooklyn did get out. She found a tiny opening in our cyclone fence. A normal opening, but she is small and she got out. I was frantic crying hysterically. Thank God she did not leave the front yard, but had it been my Bella she would have been gone. Just because she was roaming the streets, does not mean she is being neglected. They could be looking for her, but since you have her and have not posted a sign, called the police or shelter/s they have no way of knowning where she is. The matting, does happen quick, even thick matting especially if it is a cottony coat. Tia is brushed daily, yet the next day she has matts again. I'm not saying you are wrong and she is not being neglected, I'm saying that you shouldn't make assumptions based on what you said. Please, try to find her family and then if she is being neglected take action. Elaine |
I am glad she is safe with you for now. You can take her to Banfield vets at Petsmart and they can also scan. We did that with a cat we found and found the owner. You never know how long she has been missing or how far she has traveled. I would but an add on Craigslist and local papers as well. Since you mention it would be financially hard for you to take her to the vet before the 3rd maybe you can find one that will check her out for free and scan her since she is a stray at this time. I know I would be so grateful someone took my baby in but would want her home as soon as possible. |

I am glad she is safe with you. And if you are like me she is tugging at your heart..... but I still feel the pain of the owners. I hope you find them!! |
The puppy is probably so happy she has your safe happy home until she can be with her family. Since you said it's such a small town word of mouth would help too, especially if you went to peoples doors. Good luck:thumbup: |
A big thank you to your brother for being so kind to pick her up. Yes, you are very correct in it being better that you guys picked up the puppy...What an opportunity for you to teach your child how to correctly help a lost animal...As everyone has suggested you can get the puppy scanned for free. And if you couldn't do it until the 3rd I would phone the shelter or rescue unit in your area. They will even come to you,,they would also be able to have the puppy vet checked to be sure she doesn't have anything going on as their health can change just about as quickly as their coat can become matted..Also you and your child could make a large poster to place in your yard announcing lost puppy found and being cared for here...Even if you surrender the puppy I would place the poster so the family that is possibly looking for the puppy could stop and you could tell them where their baby is at....what a lesson your child can learn..It teaches that you don't just keep something you found but to try to return it to it's rightfull owner that is missing it...!!!! Thank you for having a kind heart and caring for this little one..It would be so easy to just look away!!! |

I would hope if one of my four babies was out wandering around that someone would be kind enough to take care of them until I could find them. Mine are never outside without a leash, but they were on the deck 2 weeks ago that is fenced and gated. My husband accidently left the gate open and before I knew it all 4 had run away. I was hysterical but by the grace of God all 4 came running when I called them. This was only about 10 minutes so I hate to think what the owners are feeling right now. Thank you for taking care of this baby and hopefully she will be back home soon. Maybe she doesn't live around there and has been out wandering for a while. God Bless you and your brother. |

Nothing says this pup wasn't supervised and loved or that she was out on a rainy, crummy day. She may have gotten out when it was nice out because she could have been missing for longer than just that day or perhaps she piddles outside and got out on a potty break, who knows? I know you care about her and that's why you might be passing judgment upon the original owners. You just feel bad for the poor little thing that you found matted and cold. That is totally understandable and really really honorable. I bet she's thrilled you brought her in and kudos to you for taking the responsibility on!:thumbup::thumbup: I hope you find her family soon. |

I consider myself to be a very responsible pet owner and ALL THREE of mine got out of the yard last spring. My son left the gate open and they were gone. They were only gone for less than an hour and they looked like orphans, matted, dirty, panting and thirsty when they were found. So to assume that this puppy was not loved could be a huge mistake. Many lost pets will have Here are a few ideas how to reunite a found pet with their owners. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ir-owners.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ie-poster.html You can take her to your vet or local shelter to be scammed for a microchip for FREE. They want dogs to be reunited with their owners and are very willing to help. You can even send flier to all of your local businesses and they will very willingly post them for you. Please do not wait to try to find this puppies owner. They are probably sick with worry just as we all would be if one of our babies was missing. :( Keep us posted on how your search goes tomorrow. We are all hoping that you are able to reunite her with her owners and that you will be a hero with a happy ending. :) |

Thank you for that, Jodi! I would be BEYOND beside myself if my matted not too thin baby escaped from me for even 15 minutes before someone rescued her into another home!! Please check that chip. Unless you plan to never vet ever in her life.....the issue WILL come up! |

While reading a thread "My baby is missing and I don't know what to do" I also found myself thinking, "that would never happen to me" about 3 mths later, I was going to bath Joey, and while brushing him and removing his collar, I looked out the window and it was a pretty day, (in winter with snow) I though I should let him enjoy the sunshine and let him go potty... I let him out and went to put the towels in the dryer to warm, went back out for him and he was gone...After checking the fence 5 times and posting signs, calling hubby and putting it on the radio, I went around the fence for the 6th time and found a 3-4" gap where the fence met the bbq wall and he could have slipped thru it...He was gone for 4 hours but went deer hunting to the pasture field over the hill from our home..He looked a mess, he had 4 inches of snow around his matted feet and looked a total mess..you would think no one ever cared for the little guy,,,yes, he needed his bath but was not in bad shape and had just been brushed before leaving..so their condition can change quickly...If I found one that looked like him,,I would be thinking no one cared for him..But truth is I would still be out there looking for him with the flashlight knocking on every door until I did..and they can travel so far so quickly..that is why I would phone the shelters, vets, groomers etc..this little guy is now 2 years old and still the love of my life.... |
Thank you all for your help. I believe this little one was not out too long after all. She looks very healthy , food wise . My guess is that she is around 5-6 months old. I did give her a bath , she was very smelly as well as extremely matted. the poor pup just had so much dirt and sand on her . I also gave her a groom before the bath. That took a couple hours just for that. She has a docked tail.... Discovering this really made my mind up. Someone did lose her accidently , and if that was me I would be devastated. Just because she was filthy and matted perhaps just means she may have crawled out under a fence or something. I know in my heart I cannot just keep her. I hope I can bring her home to her "real' family and they make sure it does not happen again. I did go all around the neighborhood and saw nothing posted yet. but people could of been working, and not even know she is missing. After cleaning her up and obviously well fed puppy makes me know that your all right in telling me to seek out the owner asap. The vet is closed today for the holiday, but their is a dog pound that might be able to scan her, or know of the family looking for her. I am not allowed to have anther dog where I live... the 2 I have are service dogs. my niece just lost her pup recently to a illness . I cried so many tears over her death. Her family is most defintely heartbroken. |
