A reputable, breeder, research's their pedigree's inside out, and upside down. That's not something a Vet does, nor do we expect it of them. A "pet" should never be bred. Case in point: my Yorkie, Sydney is almost 15 years old, and at the age of 8 months was considered Show quality. I had the opportunity to show her in Confirmation, or to just breed her, because the owner of her Sire felt sure she would produce at least 1 show quality puppy, but I chose neither, because she was first, and foremost my pet. I can see that you are on a fact finding mission and I think your curiosity has been satisfied. Enjoy your baby. Sheila | |

![]() Why not spay and neuter your dogs and just enjoy them as pets? ![]() We see the problem with pet overpopulation in every country. Please spay and neuter your babies.

![]() ![]() ![]() You've already rescued this baby once, why not let her just enjoy being your pet? ...Much less stress for all involved. Also, even though you don't plan on breeding her now (if at all), have you thought about how to protect her from becoming impregnated by your male in the meantime? There have been too many "accident" stories on here to count, even with seemingly foolproof precautions. Please don't take offense, everyone on this site is only interested in what's best for the dogs. Period.

![]() You have already been given good advice. The only thing I add is that unless you have two beautiful, show quality, HEALTHY dogs that meet the YTCA standard for a yorkie (NO MORE THAN 7 LBS.) and your female being 5lb or more is best, then you really have no buiness breeding. It sounds like your female came from a puppy mill or pretty close to it, her mother was prob. bred over and over and over again and suffered a long life in very unhealthy conditions and had to go through many dangerous pregnancies and whelps. Knowing that your baby girl came from something bad like this why would you even consider putting her through breeding? I know everyone has to learn somewhere. I'm not against the idea of breeding but it has to be done because you want to better the breed and create beautiful dogs, NOT for money and NOT just because you think puppies are fun and cute. If you are looking to breed a good place to start would be to go to the YTCA website and find a breeder near you. These are veteran breeders tried and true with beautiful walking perfections for the most part. They are the ones I would trust to teach you the right breeding practices. Remember a vet is a family doc. for dogs. NOT a breeding specialist and not the OBGYN. They don't know everything, they don't even claim to know everything, and for something like breeding all they can tell you is that the dog isn't sick at the moment so yes it can reproduce. That doesn't tell you it's entire lineage, it's entire health history, or it's actual chances of producing healthy, standard bred dogs. Anyways good luck on your research and please spay and neuter your current dogs. Neither dog is a breeder according to standards so please fix them before you have an accident on your hands.

![]() I wanted to add something. You said you thought it would be fun. Well, it's not fun. I'm not a breeder, but I did deliver 4 Toy Poodle puppies, in an emergency. It's not fun, to watch the Mom in labor, and it is not fun, when you realize you have a breech birth on your hands, and you have no time to get Mom to a Vet, and you have to deliver that breech puppy, without injuring Mom or killing the puppy. I managed to deliver the puppy, and thanked God I was able to save her, not hurt the Mom. And believe me, It was not fun! From my point of view, better left to the experts! Sheila

![]() ...fix your dogs before you have an accident... Cannot stress this point enough. Had one or the other of the dogs been "fixed" would you not have taken it? Just because you can breed, doesn't mean you should...Please, please---for the future of health of your dogs, take them in immediately for spay and nuetering. You're responsible for them now, so take the responsibility for their health and well-being by doing the right thing--for them!! It's always all about the dogs---what's best for them, period.
