Help... Basset Hound and a Yorkie?

We have 2 basset hounds, both spayed females and a un neutered shih tzu not by choice. He's had a health problem and the vets want me to wait a bit. The rest of our dogs are all spayed and neutered. Thank God everything turned out good for you. Just on the lighter side I wonder what it would look like if were the opposite way around and the female was a basset hound and the male was a yorkie.

With Yorkies being known to require c-sections even when bred to yorkies breeding a larger yorkie or significantly larger breed even while absolutely possible it is hapharzard to say the least.

My sons aunt has a lab chi mix...thanfully the mother was the lab...still even why!???

You have listened to the truth and the advice from people on here, and you are acting on that knowledge....so there wont be a "twice" for you! When two intact dogs are readied to reproduce by Mother Nature, that drive is sooooooooo strong, only crated animals, separated by distance or the walls of a room, will keep them apart!! I watched from my kitchen window one time, as a dobie who was in heat, go to her gate and lay on the ground, pushing her behind flush up against the iron bars on that gate, so that Joseppi, a little long haired weenie dog (cant spell dach.....!)that took an unsupervised stroll around the block every single morning and evening for at least 10 years, get himself in some contorted, UNBELIEVABLE, folded-over, twisted position, in order to breed that female thru that wrought iron gate! He did that every day, twice a day, for almost a week.....until the dobies owner walked into the back yard one day and caught the love struck duo in the throes of passion! The resulting babies were halarious....they looked like long haired dobies, that ranged in height from 10 inches tall to almost 2.5 feet tall....thank goodness the female was the larger dog.....but it goes to show you, two intact dogs WILL turn their guts inside out to get to each other!
....unless you are a responsible breeder, you have no reason to own two intact dogs, because it will eventually happen!

That story reminds me so much of my DH's boyhood pets! His family had a full blooded dachund named Ginger, who was not spayed. There was a neighborhood lothario named Blackie, who was a beautiful Cocker-Poo. He was the baby-daddy of many a litter of pups, and there seemed to be NOTHING that could stand in his way in the quest for females. One day DH got off the school bus, only to find Ginger and Blackie tied THROUGH the front yard fence! Apparently, this must have happened more than once, and so Ginger gave birth to a litter of Coca-Poo-Dach! Only one remained with the family, DH"S little man Butch. He was the only one that looked like his mother.
I guess the long and short of the story is--Nature will find a way, no matter what obsticles may be put in the way. Nutering and Spaying is the only safe answer!

just an FYI for those not looking at the posting date...this was posted back in 2010...HOPEFULLY he had her spayed...AND the male neutered!
