| Animal rescue goofball Yep, I'm talking about myself Last night Brooklyn was really startled and focused on the back door. Did I mention it was nearly midnight? So I put on my robe and slippers- I mean it WAS 30 degrees out afterall. We went outside and in the woods behind my privacy fence was this insane barking. I thought, "OH NO, someone's little dog is lost in the woods." So being the brave soul I am, I went out of my front door and around the fence toward the pitch black woods whistling like a fool for the lost "dog". Well THEN I hear that same wretched barking coming from another direction.... then another. It was insanely loud and it echoed throughout the trees.... I started thinking, "mayyyybe that isn't someone's dog out there..." Then I started thinking, "what do DEER sound like?????" I went inside and youtubed "barking deer" and low and behold, I found several videos of deer making that exact same barking sound... Did I feel stupid. WHO knew deer not only made sounds but they could be pretty loud? I sure didn't. So, there I was outside in the dark, cold night whistling for a lost..... deer. So that's my animal rescue story. I'm so glad it was too late for the neighbors to see how silly I was.

| That's soooooooooo funny! I wouldn't have known the difference, either! Your heart was certainly in the right place though. I'm not sure I would have been brave enough to go out there. I'm a coward through and through.

| That is too funny! What would have been funnier is if the deer had actually come to your whistle! I'm glad it was something as gentle as a deer!

| LOL, I'm really not that brave either but I thought I was being heroic. And yes, I did slink away hoping nobody had seen me. Here is a link to a deer making the exact same sound I heard in the dark woods..

| I would have thought the same thing as you. After watching that video, I'm not so sure I haven't heard that in the woods myself! They tell me you never want to get in the way of the males during mating season, because they can be very dangerous.

| that is really kind of creepy watching that video. LOL Even though I knew what was going to happen, I wouldn't expect that noise to come out of a deer. LOL Like others have said, your heart was in the right place..............and no one saw you. LOL

| Boy you're not kidding! Have you seen the videos of hunters being attacked by deer? They'll put a hurtin' on you if they feel threatened! |

| My grandma always said, "God watches out for fools and babies." Thank goodness some angry, crazed deer didn't bolt out of the darkness at me. I would've been found in the morning sprawled out in my robe and slippers with hoofmarks all over me.

| That is too funny (and sweet)! You have a huge heart because if I had heard a "dog bark" like that, I would have been slightly scared of the dog behind that scary sound. I had no idea that deer did this. Tammy |

| Half way through your story I was thinking of the Ghost Hunters I had just watched...and you feel silly...I'm sending this link to their show-those "geniuses" were like it's a ghost dog barking (or something worse!) because they couldn't "see" it in the dark woods...LOL they were on National TV...I'm sure your neighbors if they did see you, you just got the "Good Samaritan" giggle! I commend your efforts better to look silly rushing out in your robe and slippers than an a poor lil furry guy freezing in distress outside! make sure you bring some kind of protection with you next time though...according to one of those ghost hunter dudes it could have been a werewolf... |
