| ![]() Good luck on your search. Not sure who the NY rescue is, but, I would also be leary of them pre-approving you without you filling out an app and home visit... I am a member of Yorkie 911 Rescue, which is new to NY tri-state area (Long Island) more specifically. However, we have members that have been doing rescue for a good number of years. Rescue is hard work and very time consuming, but well worth it in the end when you find the perfect home for a dog. Y911R also requires a $25 app fee, since we are all volunteers with careers and families, this fee weeds out people that are clearly not serious. And believe me, the apps that don't are absolutely ones that you would not place a dog with... But even before you fill out an application, we take phone calls and emails and we do our very best to answer all the questions that people who are just 'looking' have. We also have lots of weekend events, that we bring foster dogs to and we encourage people to stop down so we could chat (and this could be for hours and hours with people just 'looking'). For Y911R, once the app is filled out and fee paid, then our volunteers start the approval (or non approval) process, which is very thorough and can take up to a month to complete. Vet checks, references checks, phone chats (sometimes a few), home visits, meet and greets with certain dogs to get a feel for which home would be best for that dog. For Y911R, once someone is approved, their $25 app fee goes towards the adoption fee of the dog they will adopt....Then the process begins on finding the best match for Dog and Family, and this too can take weeks to months to complete. I wish you the best in finding your new family member....it does take time, so be patient, but in the end you will be beyond happy!!!! |
