Ok, well, for those of you following my other thread, you know about how I had put another pup on deposit only to have it sold to someone offering almost double. Anyway, a lady on here had seen my thread, and offered to let me see one of her pups. She made it sound like she only had 1 litter and that she showed dogs regularly. So, I got all excited that maybe I would find a mentor as well as a puppy... BIG MISTAKE....

I just got back from her house, and let me say, I have been in barns that smelled better. She opened the door with 2 of the cutest puppies I have ever seen, but when I walked inside, I was greeted with no less than 13 dogs! And, whats worse, is you could hear MANY more barking from the back of the house. She said that she had "rescued" them all from a Kennel that had been shut down, only to follow up with she was planning on breeding a few of them.

She said that her dog was a Champion, but his topline was off, his ears and snout too long... I just... I dunno, is it ALWAYS this frustrating to buy a dog? I dont want to buy a dog from a BYB which is what she so obviously is (and if you are reading Lucy, this you should be ASHAMED!) but I really want a puppy.... any suggestions??

I am sorry this process is so frustrating! But kudos to you for recognizing this breeder was not a good one and not just taking home the cute puppy because you wanted one so bad!

I am sure the good breeders here will be able to point you in the right direction.

well I would say keep up the patience and hopefully a positive result will come your way. You're doing the right thing as a lot of people are tempted just to take the pups from BYB feeling they have rescued them.

I know you feel frustrated, but you will be so much better off finding a pup from a breeder you trust and can believe is ethical.

This was a member of YT who you were dealing with? It's such a shame to hear things like this yet again. I'm so very sorry but reputable breeders do not "rescue" and use those dogs to breed. This just makes me so sick. Did you hook up with this woman in a PM? There seems to be a lot of that type of behind the scene sales going on and with things like Google more and more shady people are finding their way onto the forum. :(

yes she pmed me from my other thread. she seemed so sincere and said all the right things, even with the testing and everything. but then when she told me about the rescues and wanting to breed them i just felt sick. I mean, it was horrible! The poor parents were soo matted I think the rubberband in the topknot was blended into the fur! yes, the puppies were cute, but NOT the quality I am looking for. I dont have to have show quality, but I am not willing to settle for unhealthy or off standard.

I am so sorry about these bad experiences back to back You did the right thing by walking away.

Have faith, with time that you will meet the right breeder and a good pup will be in your arms.

Does Utah have some conformation shows near to you? You could meet some breeders at shows.

You are making a huge decision on which puppy to add to your home. He will be part of your home for many years to come and your decision should not be made lightly. I'm so glad that you were able to walk away and not try to "save" one. As many others have said~buy your breeder first.

Who is this breeder? It needs to be known that just bc you are a breeder on YT does not make you a good one. Esp the ones who going behind the scenes and PM.

So sorry this is happening to you again. Take your time and you WILL find a reputable breeder.

Just because someone is a YT member doesn't make them a reputable breeder. Unfortunately, YT has some less than stellar breeders who lurk in the shadows and only post when they have pups to sell or send pm's to people to avoid having their breeding practices out in the open. As you have learned the hard way, be leery of someone who offers you a pup.

You might want to drop a note to admin to let them know about this person.

Kudos to you for sticking to your guns and not doing business with someone who's breeding ethics leave a lot to be desired.

its just very disheartening... I really want a puppy, and hearing all the stories about your little ones' crazy antics only make me want to get one more! lol...

yes, it was hard to walk away, because she offered them to me for very cheap, but even that seemed off to me because I really wanted to know why she would let "Champion" sired pups go for $500... I just dont get it...

Very true. Kuddos to you OP for doing the right thing and walking away. Patience will bring you the perfect pup and breeder.

She not only joined this month...she just joined today! Shame on her for trying to use YT to sell like this.

I welcomed you into my home, offered you a GREAT deal on one of my babies, and THIS is how you repay me? Its not me who should be ashamed but YOU! Yes, I have alot of dogs here, because I RESCUED them from a closed kennel. And, why shouldnt I breed some of them?? They are beautiful and will make great puppies. Plus, they LIKE to breed. Anyone in the Show world will tell you that! I am glad you didnt take one of my puppies... You dont deserve one!

Because anyone who has a lick of sense and really RESCUES a dog would NEVER breed it because they don't know the back ground.

Shame on you. You deserve to be exposed.

Is there nothing that can be done due to the condition of the dogs and the conditions they are living in? These people are almost like the hoarders we see. Puppies can't be healthy living in that kind of enviroment.:mad:

No, you aren't the bad guy. This person is no show breeder, no matter what she tries to claim here. She's a really, really HORRID back yard breeder. The kind that no one should ever buy from.

I'm finding just the opposite, every time I think I have a good potential person to buy one of my pups, they turn out not to be right for the pup and I end up refusing to sell to them, maybe I'm too picky. Might be because I don't feel I'm asking what their true "monetary" value is, as I really do just want them to go to someone who will provide lovingly for the pup's life, so I didn't think I needed to ask more than what I feel I would basically break even for (considering I'm keeping one of the pups and its value which she has, her 1/2 siblings have sold for $2,000 and up, so I certainly consider by keeping her I've 'gained' nearly that much in "recovery" costs). I'm thinking maybe I should up the price and eliminate those that may think they're not quality because I'm not asking an arm and a leg for them. A guess an 'farily' inexpensive Yorkie brings everyone out of the woodwork. *sigh* such is life I guess.

My stud is BEAUTIFUL! He is a Champion! He is in his Prime, and has sired over 30 litters! His puppies stay tiny, none have reached over 4 lbs! Why wouldnt I breed that! He is only 8 and still humps like he is 2. How dare you call me Horrid when you know nothing about me! I stay at home with my dogs 24/7. This is my full time job! I am a GREAT breeder!

How DARE you come on to YT and try to play innocent, defamed victim here. You not only don't have a clue about showing or rescues, but you violated the terms of agreement when you sent the OP a pm about having a pup for sale.

Bull puckey the dogs "like" to breed. Bull puckey that it's ok to breed "rescues". Bull puckey that any "show breeder" will tell you that.

I said in an earlier post that you were a backyard breeder. I'm going to amend my statement to say that you are more likely a backyard GREEDER.

what I dont get is how I was so completely taken in by you! I honestly thought you were sincere in your offering to me... God, I feel like crying right now, I feel like such an idiot!

There are 3 things wrong with what you wrote.
#1- you don't seem to understand what rescue entails
#2- Really? You'd breed dogs who's backgrounds you may or may not know just because they're cute?
#3- you seem to forget that the dogs in your home that you "rescued" are living breathing creatures that humans have changed from being self reliant, to our companions that we must care for and protect. THEY ARE NOT MACHINERY THAT PRODUCES A PRODUCT. PERIOD!

You should not be calling what you have done rescuing!:mad: If you have to ask why they shouldn't be bred, then you should not be breeding at all until you have educated yourself in breeding, it is not just sticking two dogs together.

Just because something is beautiful does NOT mean it should not be bred. What about genetics? My Maddie is beautiful but she also had a genetic defect that did not show up until she was almost 2 years old. Thank God she did not end up producing puppies somewhere passing on an unhealthy trait.

guys... I... ya, I am crying now... I am gonna go... I feel so sick for those poor animals... luckily tomorrow is Monday and I know a great lady at a REAL rescue...

You are so not an idiot. Many of us have fallen into this trap before but you were strong enough to walk away. Really you did everyone on YT a huge favor for sharing your first hand experience on this person.

When I was looking for a second dog, I almost got taken by a mill posing as a rescue- it happens- don't feel bad, you were smart enough to recognize the problem and to walk away! :thumbup: Hang in there- you WILL find the perfect dog for you and soon enough we will all be hearing about your babies antics.
