Does your Yorkie play fetch? Does your Yorkie play fetch? Just wanted to see, on average, how many Yorkies enjoy a game of fetch. Jackson likes fetch but only at certain times... he will play inside, for example, down our long hallway, or at my dads house, even outside in our yard but it depends what good things there are to smell... he also will play frisbee out in our yard, but it usually keeps his interest for only 5-10 mins. When we go to a park or someplace new, etc, he won't... I really wish he was the kind of dog that I could take to the dog park and throw balls and he would go chase them (for exercise purposes, the only way he gets it at a dog park is if there are other dogs there), but he just doesn't care enough when we're in a new situation like that. He will chase another dog who is playing fetch, though. As most of you know, he's a super active dog... I just wish he was able to do it by himself. |
Levi LOVES to play fetch...but only indoors. He'll fetch anything from tennis ball to socks to his bully stick. He won't even entertain the idea of 'fetching' outside - he is much too busy! He is the kind of dog who will run around in circles by himself outside. He can entertain himself pretty well. Of course, if there are other dogs around, his first choice is to chase them. And if for some reason he stands still, if I jog around, he will run with me. But 'fetch' outside? No way. |
Yes!!! Snickers loves fetch. Esp with his favorite bunny, he will play indoor and outdoor. We play it daily inside nowadays since its 10 below zero. So fun!!! Snick & Viv |

Chloe looooves fetch! She will play as long as you will throw it! The others just look at me like I'm crazy. Lol |
Layla will always play fetch outside- but she is hit and miss inside. |
Bella is not normally a play fetch girl but since I have a Chihuahua that loves to play fetch Bella will race her for the ball! She loves to chase it but doesn't always bring it back. The main reason she does grab the ball and carry it is to keep Sweet Pea from winning the game.:animal36 |
When Sammy was younger he would love to play fetch with his toy baseball in the hallway. Now that he's getting older he's not as playful. |
Piper LOVES to play fetch. As soon as you sit down to relax Piper will toss a tennis ball in your lap. Let the games begin. She would play ball all day if she could. |
Indoors, Max and Teddy would play their combo of fetch/tug o' war all day if they had a willing human participant. Their absolute favorite is playing keep away with 2 humans. They run so fast and hard. :p Outdoors, they are too busy for fetch. |

Reno will fetch a ball until we take it away from her. If she doesn't bring it close enough we tell her, "I can't reach it." and she will nose it closer until you can reach it. |
Couver is a fetching fiend. If he were to have an addiction, it would be fetching. He will fetch almost anything from stuffed toys, squeaky toys and full sized soccer balls. He will also play fetch anywhere. Often, I will have to put away the ball at the dog park to try and get him to play with other dogs. He also can sometimes get protective over his toys, so I now try to keep the fetching to at home. Khloe, on the other hand... Loves to upset her brother, but right now doesn't particularly enjoy the game of fetch. She will often chase Couver and try to steal his toys that he's fetching, but isn't really motivated by the game of fetch. She's even started this little game recently where Couver will be really into a game of fetch and she will beat him to the toy and then run off and put it away in the office. Couver will then have to go fun it and bring it back. She will then do this 5-10 more times before Couver gets frustrated and gives up on fetching. I will have to post a vid... It is hilarious to watch. I really don't know what her motivation is to hide his toys other than to just be the irritating little sister :p |
Yes! I did not train Suzi to do it, she just does :) my shih tzu will too. it is a lot of fun , knowing that our little guys are so clever. :D |
Daisy is obsessed with fetch. She wants to play it all the time everyday. We were recruited by a local flyball team as a 'height dog' because they saw how ball crazy she is and how fast. If you ignore her sitting there asking you to throw the ball she growls to get you r attention and also sits in a beg position waiting. |
Rocco and I just finished a good game of fetch. We were at it for about an hour. He LOVES to fetch any one of his toys, balls, bully sticks, what have you. We live in an apt. in NYC so he runs the length of my living room and entraceway. When we are outside he is more focused on birds, other dogs, leaves, people. |
Armani LOVES to run after balls/ toys but doesnt get the whole bringing it back concept  You have to fight him for it and its not worth it, lol! Him and Chloe are good at playing themselves, they make up games, play tug, chase each other, etc... they really prefer me to stay out of it :D |
Elliott loves loves loves to play fetch, he'll even start the game a lot of the time, the only problem is, he doesn't like to let go! He'll bring back the toy, but you must play tug-o-war if you want it back. :animal36 |
Vinnie will not play fetch at all. Sometimes he will run after something that I throw, but he will take it off in another direction and "kill" it. Alex, on the other hand, LOVES to play fetch. We will go to the dog park and I can throw his squeaky soccer ball for hours and he will just keep bringing it back to me. He reminds me of a boomerang. YouTube - Alex at Dog Park |
Cooper loves playing fetch so much he sleeps with his ball:rolleyes: His ball goes with him everywhere. He has 3 green tennis balls and 1 rubber ball and likes them equally. We play in the house in any room. We play outside in the backyard. If I'm in the office, he'll drop it at my feet. If I'm sitting on the sofa he'll drop it in my lap. When I come home from being out he greets me with the ball in his mouth. He'll even want me to toss it across the bed if we're in bed. When we are outside though he'll never drop it. I have to pull it out of his mouth. Max doesn't really play ball. I've seen him retrieve it once or twice. But he really enjoys stealing it from Cooper when Cooper drops it on the sofa for me:D |
Oh my...."does my yorkie play fetch" is an understatement :p. Wylie would play fetch 24 hours a day, if he could make it happen. So, we throw for Wylie...and he fetches, and then the two little ones (Marcel and Pfeiffer) fetch Wylie. Even if we *try* to throw it to Marcel or Pfeiffer, they ignore it....they *only* want to fetch Wylie. |
YES! Anytime, anywhere! |
Mr Pickles does not grasp the word fetch and we are not sure how to teach him. He listens well, come sit, very well potty trained, bed etc....is a runner though, will chase a toy, but unable to get him to bring anything back to us. |
Oh, yes! She'll pick a ball and bring it to me. She loves to play fetch down the hallways. She has one ball that she likes me to throw like a bowling ball and she'll crouch down and make a running start for it.:D She will play outside sometimes, too. |
Kaji is now a fetching fiend! Outside, inside, any toy that we can throw for him he will run after and fetch. |
Thor will fetch if the price is right. I have to give him a treat, even though I've explained to him multiple times that dogs are supposed to fetch for free. I usually have him do a series of tricks, or at least have him drop it directly in my hand for a reward. If he just drops in on the ground, no treat. I've tried to put it on a random recinforcement schedule, but Thor is not having any of it. If he fetches three times without a treat, he will deliberately put the ball somewhere out of reach, and walk away to teach me a lesson. |
Silver loves to play fetch inside. Not to sure about outside yet seeing as it's way to cold and snowy to find out. |
Chewie loves to chase! It took awhile for him to get the concept of bringing it back (and it's still pretty iffy--helps that I always give him tiny bites of treats when he does!). He's mostly an indoor tennis ball kind of dog. He'll chase sticks, but definitely doesn't like to bring those back. He'll fetch for about ten minutes, and then he decides that it's much more fun to just lay down and chew on his ball. |
Ben only plays his own version of "fetch" -- I throw and he will go get it and hopes I will chase him down to fight him for the toy & then do it all over again. He will not bring it back. I try to ignore and he just brings it within sight of me and whines for me to chase him. So, I play it his way. Good exercise for both of us that way. ;) |
Patches will play fetch 5-10 min also Patches & Winnie |
