Donating YT 14K Club Member | Another reminder for small yorkies I was talking to a friend this evening and her breeder/friend said that she got a phone call yesterday afternoon. She had sold this family a yorkie about a year back. Anyway, the yorkie is 3 1/2 - 4lbs and jumped off the bed and broke her leg. The lady told her that she didn't realize that owning such a small dog was that much work. Just be careful not only with tinies but any yorkie for that matter.

| Thanks for the reminder. Trixie is 5,5 lbs and a jumper. She jumps up and down the bed, the couch, even a little fence wall on our property. It's hard to keep her from doing it. But this is definately a good thing to keep in mind!

| Oh poor baby, I hope she's OK. We all love and care so much for them, we have to remember just how small & delicate they really are. Thanks for the reminder!

| That always worries me too, but what can I do? Gus is a tiny guy and a jumper. We have a foot rest stools by all of our couches but he doesn't use them. I've seen him jump as high as my mid waist when he gets excited. There is no stopping this 2.9er.

| Scotch broke his leg!! Scotch and I were playing last night and I dropped him (of course, by accident) and he broke his leg!! He didn't even cry or anything I didn't know anything was wrong until I saw his leg flailing around when he was walking. It was the worst sight ever. Needless to say, I took him to the emergency vet last night and that cost me $240!! Then they said he might need surgery, costing another $1000! I know this has definitely taught me to get pet insurance for him! And, Scotch is not a tiny yorkie, he is 8.8lbs, as of last night, so remember to be careful with ALL of your babies! |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Thank you for the reminder Kimberly - you're right - there have been ALOT of broken legs lately - and worse...like what happened to Jennifer (JCarlson2004)with her angel Katie. Our yorkies are fearless and can be impulsive and especially the smaller sized ones...their bones can snap easily and it's up to us to always protect them from hurting themselves. When mine were babies - I have a high bed so I turned a Laundry Basket Upside Down next to the bed - the put a towel on it & tucked into the base of the laundry basket so the towel wouldn't slide - Easy and CHEAP way to prevent bad jumps.... I taught both girls how to step down to the basket from the bed and it worked perfectly - never had one fall or bad jump.... |

| Kimberly, I have heard stories similar to yours so much. Some folks just dont realize how fragile those tiny little bones are. I have a small boy now...he's 8 months and weighs 4 lb, really short little legs and small bone structure. I have to put a stack of pillows with a quilt folded on top beside the bed just so he doesnt hurt himself when jumping up or down. I would like to get a set of those little steps i've seen in magazines for him to walk up to the bed or couch. My husband let him jump right off the couch one night and I about had a heart attack. He was ok, luckily. |
