Sorry to hear about his leg , I hope all goes well.. keep us posted Gina |
So many sad stories about Yorkies lately. Getting dropped, falling off of high places, getting stepped on and having heavy things fall on them. It's very depressing. Yes, tiny ones are more at risk but Yorkies are all small and fragile. It just breaks my heart that so many of our posters have to suffer such loss and sadness. Hope this doesn't sound cold but I feel like at least a broken leg can be fixed. It would break my heart if something like that happened to Shelby but it wouldn't compare to the loss of HER. Reading about Katie (JCarlson) just put me right over the edge. I am so sad today I can hardly stand it. Sorry if I sound as horrrible as I feel. |
My Lacey weighed 4 pounds. And she loved to jump up on our couch to take her naps. Well, from all the jumping, she sprained her paw. We had to take her to the vet and she had to have an ace bandage around her paw for awhile. Poor thing. |
My baby has jumped off of my king size bed and she didn't break anything and she is under 2lbs!!! |
You people that have jumpers, I would train them and highly encourage them NOT TO JUMP! My husband made a ramp for our bed, and then for the living room couches, he thought of the brillant idea of taking a car ramp (he had about 6 of them outside...we live in the country and he's always working on cars) and putting a non-skid rug on them. They work great! Better than the ramp he made, even. I just used bathroom rugs. And you can get the ramps at any auto part store or a Walmart....they only cost about $30 for a pair! But, please, don't let your babies jump. You can train them not to. |
My Jasmine is a jumper. I try to watch her from jumping off the couch but I noticed she jumps off our bed sometimes. I have a bench at the bottom of our bed and she usually goes by way of the bench. My bed is high and the bench is upholstered and lower than the bed so it is a good way for her to get down. However, our 20 yr old granddaughter is staying with us and going to college. She is also working at Amazon.com in the evenings from 5:00pm to 1:30AM. She gets home about 2:00 in the morning and Jasmine always hears her come in the door. Jasmine gets so exited that she has jumped off our bed instead of going down the way she should. She is 4 months and about 2 or 21/2 lbs. I'm just guessing her weight but she is very tiny with a very tiny bone structure. I don't want to make her stop sleeping with us, but I don't want her break something. It's almost as bad as having a baby in the house again. |
 My little Muffin jumped off of my bed in the middle of the night twice last week. We have a really high bed so my husband built stairs that go all the way to top of the mattress (6 stairs with short risers). We worked with Muffin for about 20 minutes getting her used to going up and down the stairs. Now she's an old pro! (Of course I think she the SMARTEST 5 month-old Yorkie around!) Last night I guess she had to go poopies and she climbed down the stairs to do her business on the pee pad and then climbed back up when she was done. It's amazing how smart and fearless these dogs are. Now my Maltese, Biscuit on the other hand who is big enough (9 lbs.) to jump off the bed, is terrified to do so and is afraid of the stairs - go figure!! |
Please someone tell my husband this!!!!!!!!!!!He thinks that I am a wimp when it comes to this. He plays with my little guy (4lbs) like he's this big LAB I always remind him that he's small and fragile. He says that makes them more strong. And my miko is a little jumper. Right now, we are in the process of moving, and we have boxes everywhere and he's jumping off of the boxes!!! |

It's exhausting. Doing the best I can to keep things safe and allow for soft landings. At the same time I don't want her to become a couch potatoe. These dogs compete in agility training and are very coordinated. We don't have to limit all of their fun. Running, jumping and playing is part of being a dog. |
I dont know how those of you with the real little ones do it. I have a 5lb girl and I worry about her breaking a leg or something cause shes so little. |

We go through this EVERY night with 2 adult sons living at home. Shelby has to greet the late arrivals and won't go back to sleep until she does her job. I taught her to use pillow stairs (stack a bunch of pillows by the bed) and it works out great. She gets on and off the bed that way and can use the wee pad during the night if she needs to. she has been sleeping with us since she was around 4 months old. It helps if you aren't too deep of a sleeper. |
My bed is extremely high. I have a pillow staircase at the foot of the bed also in case the want to get down at night. They also use this to climb up. I worry about them jumping all the time and cringe everytime they do it. Mac is such a wild man and thinks he can jump all a tall building in a single bound. |
