I wonder if anyone here knows that if you put your dog in a crate, you should take off the collar. Plastic crates are probably, dependent upon their construction less likely to cause a problem, then the wire crates.
True story, one day, I was lazy, I forgot to take Magic's collar off after our morning walk, and put him in his wire crate. I came home at lunch, gone 4hours. When I pulled into the driveway, and opened my car door, I heard this unusual barking from the house. I hurried inside. My poor boy, had his collar caught in the wire crate hook by the door. I don't know exactly how long he was like that, but my neighbours came over, after I got home, to ask if he was alright, apparently they had heard him barking/whining for about an hour.
I think for absolute safety wire or plastic, remove the collar prior to placing dog in crate, and train your dog to stay still when you open crate door so that you can place collar back on.
