| So far, I've only had one person ask me that. I just laughed and said, "No, he is a puppy, but will be a normal sized yorkie." Copper just turned 11 months and is weighing in at 4 lbs. He may gain another pound...who knows? Who cares? He is a bundle of love!

| I look at the person, with pity in my eyes, put my hand on his or her shoulder, and speak very softly, slowly, and speak in a caring voice and say "nooo, dear, she is a doggy. Ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer! |

| When I have Reggie with me I sometimes get.... "oh I have a teacup yorkie", Reggie is a big boy so I tell them I don't like tea I like coffee. Then I walk away, they just think I'm nuts and did not understand what they were talking about.

| I just tell them there's no such thing. I let them know that the use of the word "teacup" can be a sign that a breeder is unprofessional. I've never had anyone ask me impolitely. Usually they are oohing and ahhing over his adorableness and trying to be friendly. |

Riley was little over 2 pounds when I got him..... I was a nervous wreck between him jumping off the couch and the big dogs we would run into on our walks in the city. I am Just Now starting to feel more comfortable. Weighing in at 6pounds 2ounces at 6 1/2 months. He is still tiny compared to my prior dog [a 22 pound Schipperke....]. | |

| We get asked all the time if our 9 1/2 lb boy is a Yorkie or a mix- especially when he's next to his 6lb sister (who gets all the teacup comments). I think I'll try this response next time. "Mixed with lots of love" I love it!!! |

| People ask me that about Harlow quite often. I just tell them she is a smaller yorkie, or a toy sized. I don't think she's small enough to be considered a tea cup. Idk why you would want a dog that small anyway. Get a hamster or a guinea pig.

| Please consider health first No offense to those who have a teacup...I see how having a dog the size of a puppy can possibly be appealing, but purposefully downsizing any breed-although done many time I have a miniature schnauzer which is a breed that was created by downsizing a standard schnauzer-seems irresponsible especially in dog breeds that are already small to begin with! I don't see that health is the overall concern as it should be seems that size (downsizing) is the overall concern I've ticked off many a person by suggesting if they want a dog that small perhaps they should consider a hamster...there's a similar thread where one woman said she likes to point out to people who talk about teacups in saying something to the effect of"oh is your dog healthy" and "wow, the standard for yorkie's lists a minimum size of three pounds" I have an 11 pound yorkie, and like the woman I quoted above, often get people asking what he is a mix of-he's a standard purebred all the way yorkie! Only in America do you find the downsizing of the breed popular in fact (look it up yourself) in England (where the breed originated in Yorkshire hence Yorkshire Terrier) Yorkies are slightly larger than the standard Americans the average Yorkie in England is 8 pounds! |

| Oh man. I get people like this all the time at work. One of my regular customers has 3 yorkies and one is tinier than the other two, being about 3lbs. All 3 of her dogs are such lovers! While the little one gets attention from others I usually just pet the other two. They're so sweet! Whenever I take Rhia to work I usually get asked if 1. She's definitely a Yorkie. and 2. How much does she weigh? I told one lady the usuall 6.8lbs and she was like, "Oh...so she's not a teacup?" and I said "Nope, she's right within her breed's standards!" Smiled, and walked off. I've gotten better at being nice about it, but I have had to break it to people that there is no such thing as a teacup yorkie.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I think most people just get the word "toy" mixed up with teacup. To me, any dog under 30 pounds was a "tiny".

| I don't get offended when anyone asks if my 2 -1/2lb. boy is a teacup. I get so many nice people who come up to me when I walk Ricky, I'm not getting into the whole "there no such thing as a teacup..." I just enjoy their comments and usually have a very nice conversation. But, watch my hair stand on end when I get the comment "that's not a dog, that's a rat", now that does offend me and boy, do I let them know it.
