| Valuable Lessons Learned on Yorkie Talk All- I wanted to share something I experienced today. I had Sophie Kate out for her walk, as we were walking across the street I realized Sophie Kate was way ahead of me and heading down the sidewalk - well beyond the 6 feet of her leash. Her harness had broken!!! Some very good advice I got from Yorkie Talk that made the situation a lot less stressful are; 1. It was recommended early on to teach Sophie Kate a "wait" or "stay" command for this very reason (if she ever got lose she would stop). I simply used the "Sophie Wait" command and she stopped right on the sidewalk while I grabbed her - no running away. 2. I learned from Yorkie Talk that Sophie Kate should always wear a collar with an ID tag at all times. If for some reason she had gotten away from me Sophie Kate had her collar on with her ID tag. Thank you to all the Yorkie owners who give advice to new owners. I know it has been said before but your advice made what could have been a HORRIBLE experience very managable. New Yorkie owners, it really is helpful to post questions and learn from the experience owners.

| I'm so glad she is safe and sound. A long, long time ago, my mom was sitting with hers on a leash and talking with a friend in the friend's back yard. She noticed she was holding the leash only. She had chewed through the leash, but she didn't leave.

| I'm so glad that Sophie Kate is safe and sound. You must have been so scared at first. I have had Yorkies in my life for thirty years and before that small dogs for many years while growing up. I thought I knew so much about them, yet I have learned so much more from the kindness and generosity of people on Yorkie Talk who offer their sound advice and help on a daily basis. There are so many wonderful people here who share a love of these precious dogs.

| wow i would have been terrified. I am in the process of teaching the stay command but when we are outside i dont worry because Gatsby heels pretty good so i know if something wear to happen he would stay right by my side On a side note this is a good reminder for all of us to check harnesses on a daily bases for wear marks or chew holes especially those of us that have puppies or crazy chewers

| Boy, you are so right! The "wait" command is one of the most valuable you can teach your little one and you are doing a great job! When Adie was just a tiny (eh more tiny) squirt she ran out the front door just as my dh was pulling away for the curb. She was heading straight for the rear wheel and I yelled "Adie wait!" She put the skids on and turned around to look at me. If she hadn't known that command she would have been crushed under the wheels of the car! I KNOW the relief you felt! I am, however, one who disagrees with the collar wearing need because of the same little Miss Adie. Skeeter got his lower jaw stuck in her collar and ended up choking her to death. She had to be revive using mouth to snout. That thread is posted somewhere on here. I think It is titled "Thank God for CPR" if you want to read it. Anyway we don't keep clothing or collars on our little ones in the house when they are unsupervised. We do, however put on their collars if we take them somewhere because we want them to have their ID's in case they get away from us. |

| I bet your heart stopped until you had her in your arms! Good thing she didn't run and she listened to you! I remember one time we were in Petsmart and someone Smokey's leash somehow disconnected from his gentle leader... he didn't even know it and was just standing there looking around. I'm glad he didn't realize, because I know him and he would have made me chase him around the store. I had to cautiously kneel down and get a hold of him first before I made it obvious that he didn't have a leash attached. I have since taught Smokey a little better... he doesn't learn the same way a lot of dogs do and I had to do a lot of recall work with him and I taught him to come using a whistle. Since I've done that, he's gotten a lot better about coming back and not running around like a nut.
