| Is it normal my Precious just had pups Wed but she is now picking the babies up by the tail or leg and carrying them. It seems she just wants to be with us. Like right now she carried them all up on the couch and is sitting there contently nursing. Is this normal? How can I discourage it? |

| How do you post things on here. I have tried for 3 days trying to figure it out. There is nothing on my page letting me post new threads on here. |

| I say repost this in the breeding area. The mommy in me says confine her to an area (I will be confining my babies to the kitchen/bathroom [which ever I'm closest to) in a playpen/whelping box of some sort). When you open the folder (example, General Yorkshire Terrier discussion) look between the two blue banners (above the one that reads Threads in Forum) and it has a blue button that reads "New Thread" push this and start typing in the box. |

| Yes, definately confine her. Do not let her carry the pups around -- they are so delicate, and easily injured! Do you have her and the pups in a confined space? You may have to put her in where she cannot get out without you helping her. I started mine in a pack and play with a rubbermade under-the-bed-type shallow container at one end. The pups could not get out, but mom could easily step over. You can also make a whelping box: How to Build a Whelping Box for Your Dog I had modified the pack and play to make a door at one end so mom could come and go as she pleases. You might not want to put the door in. That way mom needs you to let her in and out and she can't just move the puppies around. Then I would move the whelping box to one end of my play yard (set up in a rectangle). My mom did need my help to get in and out of this. That is why I waited to move them to it after the pups were a couple of weeks old. This will also prevent your mom from moving the pups aorund the house, so you might want to go directly to this set up. There are lots of choices in whelping areas, but you do need to stop her from moving those pups before one is hurt. I did keep the pack and play near where we spent most of our time so we could watch, my girl would feel still a part of the family and the babies were getting use to people noises. Some prefer to keep the pups in a quiet, secluded area, but our house is pretty quiet as it is.
