Things I thought I'd never do until I got a Yorkie Things I thought I'd never do until I got a Yorkie... Feed a dog by hand... because he likes it Mush up chicken into dry dog food ...because he likes it Let a dog sleep in my bed... because he likes it Call a dog "sweetheart" Name a dog "Dinky" See my husband tear up when he drops the dog off at the vet |
They can just melt your heart without even trying!!!:) I never thoght I would have a closet full of clothes for my furbabies:D |
Cute!:D I can tell you that you'll be doing a lot more things that you never thought you'd do as the years pass, too.:D |
How about brushing tiny dog teeth and washing a tiny dog face! |
How about cleaning a cute little butt with baby wipes?!:D |
I know exactly what you mean. But it's all done with love. |
How about referring to yourself as "Mommy" when talking to a dog? Swore I wouldn't but it just popped out. |

--Let's see what I can add: --Dressing in clothes --Carrying around in a carrier --Kissy facin' --Paying more for their grooming products than mine --Buying so many beds and toys, my house could be staged as a pet store. --Holding a bully stick so they can chew on it for almost an hour! --Run to the vet for what seems every little thing, because they are such a little thing. --Calling myself mommy and my sons their brothers (and they don't mind either) --Putting ramps and doggy stairs all over the house to save their little joints. --Hand-feeding a litter of 5 every 2 hours --I know there are lots more I can't think of right now. Cute thread Dinkyweil! |
how about: --kissing them on their lips --kissing their bellies --wiping them off when they come in from the rain --heating towels in the dryer to warm them when they come in from the snow --sitting still for long periods of time and rubbing their bellies while they lay on their backs and having them paw at your hand for more when you stop --spending a lot of time researching which car seat to buy them and then buckling them into their car seat when you take them in the car --getting up during the night to give them medication --and waiting impatiently for the day at work to end so you can go home and get greeted and get some yorkie kisses. --not wanting to go places unless you can take them too --letting them out to pee before you do (haha this is hard in the morning) |

Things I never thought I'd do: Get up at 3 am every morning because Pixie likes to eat at that time. Have 4 of them at the same time Have insurance on my dogs Have a bed rail on my bed so they have to use the ramp from the top instead of jumping half way down and possibly hurting their knees. Cover each one with a blanket at bedtime. Take so many pictures that my family makes fun of me. |
I absolutely love this thread....I relate to every last one!! I am going to add another.... - Bringing tissues in your pockets when you walk them because heaven forbid if they go poo and a little stays on their bum.....I bend down and wipe them and don't really care who's watching me!!lol All I say is Lucky stay , mommy has to wipe and he don't move till I say ok... all clean!! Then he continues on.....lol I love my little guy!! :) Reading this thread makes my heart smile..... |
Love this...can totally relate!! :teeth: they definately steal your heart!! |
I always loved Halloween costumes for my dogs... but never thought I'd have a plastic tub full of Yorkie clothes! :P She has so many dresses, t-shirts, and sweaters. She also gets her picture taken with Santa every year! :) It's my Christmas card picture. I play World of Warcraft and when I was sending cards out to some of my online friends, they were shocked to see that I had a cute, little Yorkie with Santa. They always figured I was a big dog person and that I'd never do cute things like that with my dog. |
Oh Yes Sigh! I've always had dogs but I never had one I could dress up like I do with Zach my yorkie and Zoe my shorkie. It's really fun but I'm going broke buying clothing for them. I've even started buying clothing for my Bassets which I never thought I would ever do. |
I never thought i would be asking my husband to get me a dog wardrobe large enough to hang their 300+ outfits for christmas. |
How about scheduling your baby for grooming instead of a badly needed haircut for yourself because you want her to look pretty for Thanksgiving? These days I'm lucky to even brush my hair before leaving the house, let alone styling it. |
I don't feel so ridiculous now. I've been doing all of these things. Even the tissues in my pockets.lol We just took a cool two-mile walk up and down our addition. When we came back into her fenced yard, we were playing hide and seek. I told her I was going to get her and she ran and thought she was hiding behind a huge clump of maiden grass. I went running up to it and told her I was going to get her again and she ran and hid behind the air conditioner. She was peeking around the other side of it, so I snuck up behind her and told her I was going to get her again. She took off and ran and jumped into one of my cleaned-out flower beds and started digging a hole. So, I suppose you can add acting like an idiot or a 5-year old child to the list, too.:D |
also "nose kisses" at bedtime hearing my husband say "my little baby boo-bee do." (he's obviously head over heels about "the Dinkster." |
The only thing i said i was not going to do was carry him around i was firm on the dogs gave feet they can walk thing. I still tend to let him walk when i can i make him walk between stores when we go out and from the car to the front door of daycare |
I am killing myself laughing because I absolutely do all these things mentioned without a worry or care of anyone else. I don't dress him up often but he has his cute winter coats and jumpers and I did buy him world cup Tshirts and jackets of my favourite teams cos he looks cuter in them than I do. And he will be getting a Christmas jumper again this year. I just finishing grooming him and he's lying on his rug having a nap |

Um???? How 'bout taking your dog to day care? LOLOL You can add - sewing more clothes for dogs than the skin kids. And crocheting sweaters, making blankies, making beds . . . and spending hours online reading about yorkies . . . |
This thread is too funny! I never thought I would rock a yorkie!! I literally sit in the rocker and put him to sleep. Those babies steal our hearts!! |
Great thread. Well I was already a Mom to my big dogs, so no big deal. But I don't wash their butts every time they go out, I don't dress them in sweaters in case they are cold, and I certainly don't wrap their coats! But he is my baby, in a way my big dogs aren't. I protect him, worry over every little hiccup. And he gets away with a lot more bad behaviour that I would tolerate from my big dogs. |

This one hits me hard. My DH was looking for a specific picture of one of our kids and he had to weed through all the dog pics. He said I have more of the dogs then the kids. :-) |
In addition to all the others - I do them all  How about plan more for their Halloween costume than I ever did my skin kids and lose a night's sleep planning how to make a coach out of a pumpkin so the picture would be perfect. |
Before I got Liz, I never thought: I'd have a dog I bathe once a week. I'd find out what a pin brush was. I'd keep a pin brush in my night stand and use it every night and before going out anywhere with my dog. Shave a tiny dog butt. Trim a dog's bangs. Run and train such a small dog in agility. |
Start sewing! Now, granted I haven't done much, but considering I haven't done any sewing since my mom forced me to learn some when I was around 10, it's a pretty big deal. I need to take some pics of Chewie's new hoodies. Also, doggie Christmas exchanges! Chewie's trying to decide what to get for his cousin Murphy. Any suggestions for a 70-pound boxer? |
