| Recommend vet in Central Iowa? Need 2nd opinion today! I am in need of a vet's second opinion on Bella. The vet we typically see isn't quite as investigative as I'd like him to be. Can you recommend a vet in Central Iowa? Preferably Des Moines area if possible. Or an Urgent Care for animals would work as well. I'm halfway between Des Moines and Iowa City so I can go either direction. There is a vet clinic in Grinnell but I'm not familiar with them. Since Bella's spay she's had some odd issues including the lump in her abdomen that my current vet couldn't identify. It irritates me when we get a wait and see attitude. The lump did go down but he couldn't tell me what caused it and it wasn't around her spay incision. Now she's been trying to throw up since around 4am, she won't eat, she's shaking and she's not breathing correctly. If I get a wait and see from my vet I want to take her for a second opinion right away. Thank you!

| Isu Ok...after research and references it looks like the best solution will be Iowa State University's small animal emergency services in Ames.

| I can't help much, but my experience with a state university hospital has been outstanding. Have you called yet? I'm wishing you the best with Bella.

| Yes, ISU vet med is the place to go. We live just a few miles from there and although I use another vet for my basic needs, in an emergency that is where we have always gone and have received excellent care. Hope you can find out what is causing your dogs issues, and that it turns out to be nothing too serious. |

| Hi Cathy! I hope this finds you well. Bella's vet says that she has gastritis. He gave her a B12 shot and sent us home with some liquid anti-emetic. I gave her a tbsp of apple pedialyte and she has kept that down. She is still retching occasionally but nothing comes up. She is shallow breathing like she's in pain. I've carried her in her sling all day against my chest. When I put her down she doesn't want to walk. She finally walked when DH came home from work. If she's not better by tomorrow my vet said to contact him and he will continue doing a workup on her. She's not to have any food until tomorrow to settle her tummy down. We'll start with a small amount of rice and broth more than likely. If this continues I may end up taking her to ISU in Ames. Thank you for the recommendation. It just breaks your heart when your baby is sick and there's not anything you can do.
