I Love Thor Donating Member | My Turd-head of a dog!!! Thor has started this (wonderful) thing where he has been refusing to eat his food. I was having trouble a while back because he was not interested in his own food but in our other dogs lamb and rice formula, (even though he had the $20 bag of lamb and rice). So I got him a bag of what the other dog was eating and switched her to a mixture of his old foods that he wouldn't touch. Now, he only wants what she is eating...the same stuff that he REFUSED before!!! I'm not going to play this game with him but I am kinda worried because he isn't eating. I think he has lost some weight, but he isn't wasting away with all the treats he gets. Oh and one more thing. Sometimes (well alot actually) we use his food for rewards for when he does tricks, and he LOVES the little pieces we feed him from hand, like they are some special treat. What should I do?? He's got to eat something and I can't keep switching his food. He was on purina (from the breeder) then I switched him to california natural lamb and rice, then I switched him to Costco Lamb and rice...errr, he is sending me mixed messages, actually maybe he is just trying to see how far he can pull my strings!! PLease!!! Any advise for me!!! Thanks, Hannah |

| I would try hand feeding him!!! OR...Sometimes Luigi doesn't like to eat his food from the bowl!!! Why--I don't know!!! So we play games with his food!!! I will throw away from him and he will go chase it then eat it!!! we do that alot!!! He likes to play and eat--so maybe try tossing the food across the floor and make a game out of it!!!!

| Well, I suppose you could keep the leftovers of the rejected food and switch back and forth between it and whatever you decide to use now. Sounds like he wants variety! |

| Training you? Could your puppy be training you? When my puppy decided to stop eating I took his food away for like an hour, then I would place it down for him for like 15 minutes, if he didn't eat it I'd put it back up. Eventually he started eating his food just fine. I think that they just know what we are willing to. |

| Winston tried that on me a couple of months back. I made the mistake of hand feeding him... so for a while it's a game of Mommy begging for him to eat and feeding him. Well, I got out of that I started to feed him Merrick dog food which come in different varieties... like Granma's Pot Pie, Thanksgiving Dinner.... etc. I mix one tablespoon of the wet food, chop in some veggies like greenbeans, peas, yams, put it in the microwave then mix in the dry food. He loves it now. It really smells and look like homemade people food without the salt and bad stuff for dogs. I am so thankful that he's grown out of the "Not eating phase". |
