| New Yorkie owners Hi my name is Krista and we just got our first Yorkie, Tink. She is about 9 weeks, and we are loving her!!!! We also have a pure bred Staffordshire pit (who is so good with tink and the kids). Poor Tink we have three kids ages 6,3, and 13months, but she is adjusting well. My mom has a yorkie/pom mix and 2 chihuahuas, so I was raised with the little dogs and couldnt wait to get my own. I have not sent in her papers yet and was wondering if AKC would be better or CKC, her papers are for CKC but I read we can switch if we want, any opinions? | When you say CKC do you mean Canadian Kennel Club or Continental Kennel Club?

Can I ask a question? How can you have a pure bred Staffordshire pit? Thats a Staffordshire bull terrier crossed with a Pit bull right? Also I have pedigree papers on my Poppy but I havnt registered her with the KC as I have no intentions on breeding her.

| Welcome!!! I registered Sophie with AKC. I had her spayed, and I never had any intention in breeding her. I just wanted her to have a "birth certificate"...lol.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | All 3 of mine are spayed/neutered, but I registered Baxter and Cooper for the same reason, I wanted to give them our last name on paper! |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | I've always registered even though I neuter and spay. I do it because I support the majority of the work being done by the AKC. Canadian Kennel Club is transferable to AKC. Continental Kennel Club is not. Please be very, very careful with such a small and delicate dog around such young children. It only takes a moment for an accident to happen.

That is so funny! I did Rosie for the same reason. She is spayed but does have my last name and a birth certificate now.

| Thanks for the welcome! It is the Continental Kennel Club, and yes we are always careful, like I said I grew up around small dogs. Oh and to answer about my other dog Panzer: Dog enthusiasts consider the American Staffordshire Terrier, otherwise known as the Pit Bull, to have come from the exact same lines as the Staffordshire Terrier. The original crossing of breeds sprung from the mix of an older type of Bulldog with some other older types of Terrier. The result was a dog which is currently known as the Bull Terrier. These dogs became popular for individuals who enjoyed the practice of dog fighting. Dogfighting was an extremely popular sport despite the fact that it was declared illegal. The United States started to see many Staffordshire Terriers around the late 1800s when they were brought over for dogfighting entertainment. It was at this time that they became known as the American Bull Terrier. Americans then wanted to create a larger, more aggressive version of this dog, so the mix of the English version and the American version were combined, creating a new breed of dog that was recognized by the AKC in 1936. The official breed name was American Staffordshire Terrier (Pit Bull).Pit Bull Dog Breed (American Staffordshire Terrier) | Natural Pet Health |
