| Harley Learned a New Trick! Since the very first week I had Harley I realized he was a pro-hopper! So I decided right away to use it too my advantage.. When he is in his x-pen I lean in, clap my hands and he jumps right up into my arms! Well I decided I wanted to teach him how to do this without a fence in between us.. lol Yea, it wasn't very successful! He would just roll over and show his belly or just sit there and stare at me w/ this head cocked to the side as if to say, "Are you insane? Just pick me up you goob!" But I haven't given up and I taught one of my other dogs Zeus how to do it (wasn't too difficult since he wants nothing more than to be in my lap 24/7 ) And I've made sure I have Zeus hop up into my arms in front of him but apparently he still thought I was insane and refused to do it. That is until this morning.. I was outside walking him as usual and decided to give it a try.. I clapped my hands and TER DA he was in the air at chest height when I grabbed him! Needless to say I was STUNNED! But sooo proud! I instantly began praising him, rubbing his belly and ears and gave him a baby carrot when we got inside (his FAV!). And he's done it 4 other times today since then! Sorry I'm being such a dork but I'm sooo proud of my little fur ball! I mean, it takes a lot of trust and guts for that little dog to leap helplessly 4 feet into the air hoping his mommy will catch him!

| I was wondering.. Has anyone had any luck on teaching your babies the "speak" command? Any tips?

| Teaching to speak... I taught my first baby to speak using the little springy doorstop. For some reason, I used to "flip" it and it would make a funny little noise -- and Sneaker would bark. So, I just started saying "speak" when I did it, and she caught on real quick. After that, I taught her to "kill." When I was holding her, I would kind of grab her and say "kill," and she would sound really vicious. I would always have to tell people, that she wasn't trying to bite them -- she just knew it meant "bark really loud!" I haven't found anything that Toby will "bark" automatically at. Other than people walking by, the mail coming through the door, or some random noise outside -- so he hasn't learned the "bark" command. |
