| Spencer Has a Problem Hi, I am new to the Board - I have 2 of the cutest, smartest, sweetest (& all those other "descriptive" words) Yorkies - Spencer is 9 and Zoe is almost 2. Spencer is having a problems on his stomach, his legs & a bit on by his shoulder. . .His tummy is all red, with some spots that looks like dirt. He's on Interceptor and Frontline Plus monthly and has been since day 1. The Vet said it's a staph infection; put him on steroids a couple of times & it may clear up for a short while but comes back. I have a special shampoo that I use for this condition, prescribed antihistimanes (for the itching). I know you can't tell by this description but have any of you had this problem...red irritated stomach and legs with "dirty" spots??? I don't want anything to happen to him and I don't want him in misery. Of course, I will contact Vet again tomorrow but....why doesn't the dang stuff clear up? | Stop the interceptpr and frontline. Bathe with oatmeal shampoo. I don't but chemicals on my dogs unless it is necessary. All mf that poison gets into their systems and causes allergies and messes up their immune system. If you wouldn't put it on your kid, then don't put it on your dog. |

| Thank you so much for you help. What do you use to fend off ticks, parasites, etc.? My husband takes them to play in the back yard and he has two big dogs. |

| I have never, ever used any flea preventative on my dogs. I live in Florida, home of the flea, and have never had a flea problem because I treat the yard. The pest control guy stops by every other month and sprays the front and back yard and I've yet to find a flea on the dogs. I don't have carpets, only tile and wood flooring but when I did have carpeting I took the extra precaution of treating the carpet too. Frontline is a poison, that's how it kills the fleas. Interceptor is a necessary evil because without it the dog would surely get heartworm which is deadly.
