Shaving underneath I posted this in the grooming area but thought it may get more attention here. For those of you who shave the tummy area, do you stop at the belly button or take it all the way to the under arm area?

If you want to "shell" her, you can shave up to her ribcage.

It depends on what you are trying to accomplish or what problems you want to avoid with the cut. My Maddie Jo matts very easily on her tummy and chest area just from sleeping over night so I shave her or cut her very short all the way up to her arm pits.

I have Bonnie shaved all the way up to her arm pits in the summer, cause she is so hot-natured.

Thanks to all. My problem is the matting. Lilly, my parti girl has very fine hair on her belly and even the insides of her hind legs. It is almost impossible to keep it from matting and she even had a small tangle on her girly parts. Her skin is very sensitive in these areas and I just want to make it more comfortable for her. As it is now she will go hide when I pick up her brush.

| I just cut Fido around his pee area , but i will propably cut up to his belly button when his coat grows longer. Why do people cut under the armpits? When he was a pup i cut him there, then he got so much matting there (when he was switching from puppy coat to normal), his coat is not so long now, when it gets longer and if it gets many matts then im gonna cut his hair under the armpits and longer up the stumach.
