| The breader told me to use my shampoo on gizmo?? when I bought my yorkie a few months ago, the breader told me that I should use my shampoo and conditioner to wash him.. Is his true? Because I was always told that human shampoo was too strong for dogs?? |

| Some shampoo's are too strong. But there are some out there that are OK, I guess it depends on what you use. Maybe someone will post a better answer.

| It's obviously better to use the shampoo that is made for them. I have once or twice used my conditioner on my furgirls because it makes them smell really good and their coat comes out really silky but i don't do it regularly. I have special dog shampoo/conitioner that's made for their coat. So i'd say it's alright a few times if you run out of their shampoo but you should get them their own because it's way better for their skin and coats.

| WOW! Thats not good then, because I have been using mine on him since we have had him. Anyone know a good brand for him? I don't want to get something that is cheap and does not work... |

| I keep a good oatmeal shampoo on hand if mine get a seasonal itch. I nearly always used Pro-V shampoo and conditioner on Muffin and she was beautiful. She had a nice silky coat, too. I've been using it on Kacee most of the time, too.

| Thanks! Thanks for all of your help! I think I will keep using what I am using for now. If he starts itching or looking irritated I will switch shampoo and conditioner to something more appropriate. thanks again! Heather & Gizmo |

| here's what i have learned: 1.) Human shampoo/conditioner is obviously not tearless (generally speaking), so be careful! 2.) The PH balance in OUR hair products is set for OUR hair. Not the doggies! Most of OUR hair products are great for their actual HAIR, but if you don't rinse it out super good, it will irritate their skin, sometimes severely. Just be sure if you do use YOUR hair stuff, rinse it out then rinse again! You don't want your babies getting rashes. i like to use Thermasilk because i blowdry, and it pumps up the shine! |

| A lot of the yorkie owners on this forum use human shampoo on their furkids. I used to.. i know that it is different pH and all that stuff, but my dogs have never had a reaction to it, and i always made sure to rinse out very, very, very well. I no longer use human shampoo on them, but i do use the chris christensen systems on them and their hair is awesome, you might want to check it out. www.chrissystems.com |

| It's not a good idea to use human shampoo (unless in a pinch) The ph balance of a dog is totally different. Using human shampoo on a regular basis can cause itching and coat breakage. Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo (prevents craddle crap and lice) so never use it on a regular basis either.
