I have been shopping and shopping the last few days -- and I have to say that after all the bridal and baby showers I've attended over the years, someone should throw me a puppy shower!
Tallulah will be joining our household in 2-6 weeks depending on how soon her breeder thinks she is ready, and she is coming home with a kit of basics to take care of her for a few days - food, a favorite toy, etc. The breeder told me all I really need to get right away is a playpen for when she is not under supervision. And she recommended a pet lixit for the playpen instead of putting water in a bowl -- which she is used to using, and ensures that her water is always clean and doesn't get splashed around the playpen.
I had a 10% coupon for Petco, so I decided to stock up on everything I might need in the next few months. Picked up said bottle, a petaroo front-style pet carrier, tushee wipes and eye wipes, a slicker brush, mesh harness and leash, dental kit, nylabone, kong ball, folding "bowl" for water when we're out gallivanting around, and a nail trimmer. And a mouse pad with a YT puppy on it.
Her sherpa bag came in yesterday's mail. And I've visited a couple of Ross stores and collected a doggie bed fit for a princess, several tiny sweaters, a bowl for her food, and a couple of halloween shirts - one for her soon-to-be nephew, Dexter the pomeranian, and one for Tallulah. Just in case she doesn't want to be a bumblebee for Halloween.
Since she will come home with food, I'm going to wait until she visits my vet (as soon as possible after I get her) to decide about a "permanent" high quality food for her. We already have corn syrup on hand and I will get some nutrical from the vet.
We're still looking for the playpen, and if we can't find a clean used one, I can always get one at Target or Wallyworld.
So... have I forgotten anything?
Oh - and I ran into a young couple at Petco who were shopping for the cutest little 6-month old Yorkie. Of course I had to admire him and I think I went on a bit long about this forum and how much I have already learned. Guess I'd better print out some of those cards to have on hand. Then I could just hand out the card and shut up...
