OMG!!! We have a Reno too!!!! Don't change the name.

I like the name Reno as well! It sounds like Reno is finally going to start "living the good life." Bless you for taking him into your home. He will be spoiled in no time!

You are simply amazing! I am so happy Reno has you while he waits to find his forever home! When I was reading this post and read he is a puppy mill rescue I started to cry. Puppy mills simply break my heart! He is truly in the BEST Foster home with the BEST Foster mom who will show him what LIFE is REALLY supposed to be like! He is sooooooo adorable! Sending lots of puppy kisses to Reno!

Reno is adorable, and I definitely was fooled by the pictures. He looks every bit the puppy! I know he'll be forever grateful that he'll never spend another night in that nasty puppymill. He sounds like he is adjusting amazingly well, especially since all he knew was the life of a puppymill breeder dog before the rescue came along. My Lane took much longer to adjust, but it was so amazing to watch her every step of the way!

Well, he slept in the pen all night. Bruce woke up before me (don't know what time as I woke up at 7:30) and he opened the door to the pen.
The pad in the pen was wet through, he must have knocked the water bowl over. At the moment we can't coax him out of the pen. He wants to stay in there. Bruce managed to get the pad out and put it in the washer.


Ohhh- guess who just walked into the computer room? Reno! He is out of the pen and investigating. Going to go and take him outside to potty.

Ok, took him outside. he didn't potty though! Bruce knelt down by him and all Reno wanted to do was lay his head on Bruce's knee. We brought him in and put his belly band on. Beamer and Lil Bit went out through the doggy door, Reno stood at the door so I took his belly band off again opened the door (he'll figure out the doggy door when he has been here a while). He went out and actually ran around the yard a little, then went next to the fence looking out with Beamer. Then he came back to the house sniffing things on the way. He came back in the house, so put the belly band back on him. He then went into the pen and lay down. I guess he feels safe in there. The door is open and he can come out any time he wants. - Oh, he is out and about exploring the rooms now.
He is such a nice boy. He looks like he only has teeth on one side of his mouth. But he is eating the food and treats OK. He probably never got any treats his whole life until now.

When I first brought Bogey home from the shelter he had no idea about treats, stairs, grass or even playing but the other 2 sure did and taught him well ;) Say the word treat around here and he's the first to the treat jar in the kitchen now to sit, give paw and roll over. :D I will bet that Reno will be the same way with a little "schooling".

I'm so glad he is doing so well and look forward to lot of reports of his progress. :)

Glad to hear Reno is doing so well! You must be so happy that he is getting along with Lil Bit and Beamer! It's good he has a place to just chill out but then again he can come and go as he wants to check out your home and all. Reno must think he is in heaven...he is because he is with you and your family.

I can't wait to see that day:) He really is a darling boy. He did sniff at the doggie stairs that Beamer and Lil Bit use to get on the bed. I thought for a minute that he was going to climb up them, but he didn't. Give him time and he probably will:D
he has nearly eaten all the food I put in the bowl for him, so he is eating fine. Eventually he will probably learn that it is OK for him to eat from the bowl I have down for Lil Bit and Beamer. One step at a time. Letting him adjust at his own pace. He has to learn to trust us. But I am getting "puppy licks" when I put my hand close to him, and he seems to like me stroking the top of his head.

You're doing such a good thing for Reno. My Sophie never has figured out the doggie door.

I figure when he sees Lil Bit and Beamer going in and out of the door he may figure it out.
Right now though I don't want him outside in the yard unless Bruce or I am with him all the time.:aimeeyork

He hasn't made a sound since we brought him home. I talked to Michele from the rescue group and she says it is possible that he has been debarked, that puppy mill dogs are sometimes debarked.
I would love to have five minutes with that puppy mill owner! Grrrrrrrrrr

Many pups do not bark when they are new in a home. I had one that actually did not bark for over a year!!! One day I heard a new bark and was like...omg you have a voice? haha My guess is that Reno will bark in a week or two....be careful what you ask for. :D
Debarking does not stop them from barking. They normally just make a strange sound when they bark.

hope your little man hasn't lost his bark. Molly was 2 years old when i adopted her and didn't bark for 2 weeks...

I read this entire thread.. & absolutely love to hear about how little Reno is doing. It is so cool and heartwarming that you have taken in little Reno. He seems to be adjusting well and on his own. What a great person you are to have rescued this little boy. :D

Today was fine. Naturally Reno isn't housebroken so there have been accidents, but my house smells nicely of vinegar:D
He is still hesitant to come out of the pen, and we are letting him come out at his own pace. During the day the front is taken off the pen so it is wide open so he can come and go as he pleases, and at the moment he pleases to spend most of the time in there. I can coax him out with the jerky treats, but he is hesitant to come all the way out. As soon as he sees me with the baggie of treats though he comes to the front of the pen to get one (or two:)) He seems to be getting used to his name, as when I am in the kitchen and look over to him and call his name his ears prick up.
He came out of the pen and went over to Lil Bit a couple of times to check her out. We just took him out in the back yard and he ran around the yard. Beamer and Lil Bit came out in the yard too. I closed the back door, so Beamer and Lil Bit would have to come back in the house through the doggie door and I wanted to see if Reno would use the doggie door.
When they decided it was time to go through the doggie door and back in the house, Reno followed them! So he knows how to use the doggie door - at least to get back in the house.
He is eating well, I have one of those ziplock bowls with his food in and I have filled it about three times since he came home with us. Hopefully he will gain some weight. I don't know how much he weighs now, but you can feel his bones. He needs to gain some weight. I have ordered a couple of those bowls that attach to wire cages, one for food and one for water. I have also ordered a collar for him (all from PPets).
He has a harness on, and Michele from Rescue wants us to keep it on at all times as she has a tag on it. But this morning I found the little wire ring that holds the tag on the floor of the pen and the tag nearby. Looks like he may have got the tag caught up in the side of the pen in the night and pulled it loose. So, I have ordered the collar just to hold the tag, and I have a better ring for the tag.
He is a very loving boy and when he is more socialized whoever adopts him is going to be very very lucky.
I haven't taken any pics since he got here, he really doesn't look any different than the pics I already posted, and I don't want to startle him with the camera yet - unless I can get some of him outside where I won't need the flash.

I have rehabbed puppy mill dogs before - dacshies though, not Yorkies. They are slow to give their trust and do need lots of patience. The pen is in the living room so he can see everything that is going on.

Definitely read the article! That was the first thing Jodi (Megansmomma) sent me after I adopted Toby (a puppymill rescue). That made Toby all the more special to me and was very eye-opening.

It sounds like Reno is going to be sooooooooooooo spoiled!

So, we took him out in the backyard this morning as soon as he woke up.
We spent about 40 minutes out there with him. He wandered around the grass sniffing around. I was sure he was going to go potty! But no!
But within 15 minutes of coming back in the house he pooped in the pen.
So, laundry again to launder the pad and blanket. He is in Lil Bit's bed now, I put that in the pen for him until the pad and blanket are clean.

He has spent a little more time wandering around the house this morning. He even went up to Bruce and when Bruce bent down to him Reno gave him puppy kisses and I could swear I saw his little tail give a wag.

Next time he is outside in the grass I will try and get photos.

Aww -- I just read through this thread. What you and your family are doing for little Reno is just amazing. Best of luck to you guys and keep the updates coming! Puppymill rescues are special!
