I'd tell that heifer that she is "breaking the law" by having her dog off of a leash and that your dogs are defending their property, which her dog just happens to keep running on"!

I'd still drop a dime on her to animal control. A little warning from them should suffice and shut her wacky behind up!

She said I should have better control of my dogs and those retractable leashes are no good. (I like them cuz it gives them room to run and do thier thing.) I said that you should have your dog on a leash when its outside. She proceeded to tell me that if it werent for my dogs yapping so much, he would never have ran over here. She always lets her dog out w/o a leash and he never runs off. And she asked me in a very attitudeish way--I hope you have your rabies shots all up to date. Brasco didnt even draw blood when he bit him, I think he just nipped him. Now this all happened on my propery and she told me that if her dog gets sick or if anything is wrong with him, she is holding me responsible!

What--me responsible????? For what, not having her dog on the leash?????

Help!! Can she do something to me legally or do you think she was just blowing off steam. I just called m hubby at work and he thinks she was just blowing off steam. What do you think???

I don't know if you have "leash Laws" in your town....but if you do...she is completely culpable. She is in complete breach of leash law...and anything that happens to her dog is her responsibility. On top of that...her dog came onto your property.

Sigh...are people that dimwitted?

Next... i know she seems like a looney to you , but you have to remember you will both be living there and looney or not it would be horrible to start everyday waiting to see what happens next. I would just be the be the bigger person and smile and be nice and probably even say something friendly and see how it goes. Plus if they are going to let the darn lab out anyways without a leash , you might as well have it and your dogs friendly so no incidents happen. It's really not the labs fault. the lady can choose to be friendly or ignore you or whatever.. It's hten on her head!

I'm glad you talked to your lawyer friend. She doesn't have a leg to stand on, and now you know she's a looney toon.

This kinda made me giggle too. Some people should just be kicked out of the gene pool. I'm sure she was just blowing off steam though. She was probably upset that her dog got nipped. I agree with everyone though, she has no ground to stand on. Call AC and document your case. It's better to be safe than sorry. If this happens to go any further please keep us updated!

I had a Saint Bernard a few years back. We didn't have a fence on our rental property so we had him chained in the back yard with a log chain long enough to reach about most of the back yard. We had a neighbor that let their Doberman loose, in our yard he came. To make a long story short my dog de-nutted her dog. She called the sheriff and wanted to have him haul my dog off because he was dangerous. He laughed and told her that he couldn't fault my dog as he was on my property and her dog came onto my property so was her fault for not keeping her dog off my property. Boy, was she mad. But that was the end of it.
